Bakersfield is a really good event
Plus its a 4 day event with plenty of test n tune runs
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on August 10, 2013, 03:58:23 AM
cool. test n tune is probably a good thing for someones first time.  will triple buff paddles hold up because its not actually sand is it?
Title: 300' drags
Post by: PORTED R on August 10, 2013, 04:08:31 AM
Triple buff is fine
They groom the track really good

Post by: Rupp250 on August 10, 2013, 05:55:40 AM
Johnny the setup you had would be good. I would add some struts and a bar and you will be good to go.
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on August 10, 2013, 12:37:50 PM
Ok cool. I cant afford new tires ha. I could probably make struts and a bar myself too huh?

Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on September 11, 2013, 10:48:31 PM
Haha me too! Dang ported r! What'll he be on?
Title: 300' drags
Post by: PORTED R on September 11, 2013, 10:58:18 PM
Well it depends how much practice he can get in before then
And how much I wanna spend ,I could do a fresh 310 (bore and hone to next size)
Or a 5mil 350 (370)
Either way it well be a trx with struts and wheelie bar
Idk if he could ride a 370 ,I'm thinking a fresh 310 topend with good gearing and a 100 ibs rider should pull good times
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on September 11, 2013, 11:03:26 PM
Heck yeah man! Thats awesome! How old is he?
Title: 300' drags
Post by: PORTED R on September 11, 2013, 11:11:22 PM
15
I've always raced my own stuff ,but about a week ago he tells me he wants to race my bike
Got me stoked ,threw the long swingarm on,changed gearing, tires and lightened it up as much as I can
I'm ready to see him fly down the strip

Post by: johnny22 on October 11, 2013, 12:31:26 AM
don't worry man i'll probably still be getting it tuned and setup right haha. Nice! Maybe i'll just take my 370 to see what it does and to get used to that kind of drag racing. Im sure its different than dune drag racing
Title: 300' drags
Post by: PORTED R on October 11, 2013, 01:26:41 AM
Too tell u the truth
A lot of people run 370 or 350 setups out at bako
There are some bigger cylinders aswill

And yes 300 ft is totally different

115lb? Damn. I am hoping to be 200 by then. Plus some lightening of the bike. Maybe I can get Colin to run it for a pass to see what it will do.

im excited to race you guys. It sounds like its gonna be a lot of fun!
Title: 300' drags
Post by: Rupp250 on October 11, 2013, 10:16:45 PM
There are some 250r's that run there that are a lot faster then our dune bikes. Last year I think the fastest single was running 4.1s. But there should be 5-6 singles for us to run with. Will be a good class for sure.

I am going to try and come down for the Bakersfield race.

Nice. It really is a good time. A couple of us camp for the weekend right at the track. That way you don't have to drive to a hotel.

Hey Simon, Yah I hope so too, haha, I think I may have to put some bricks in his pocket an have him do some squats, just so he can start it, pretty sure i"ll be starting it for him, but should be a lot fun....!!!!

Since these are all "Dune" bikes, lets all make passes on our own stuff and compare. I build my junk so I can ride it.
Wheelie bars allowed in this friendly wager?

haha I was joking about riding other peoples bikes... I don't want to be responsible if anything happens... lol  and I say yes on wheelie bars as well. as most of the bikes there will have them... im hoping to have mine built by then!!! it just sucks that ima spend like $300+ on building one and only gunna use it once a year... haha  im hurtin for money right now :grey:  well see what happens...

im not cheating man.. im just trying to keep up with everyone else!!! haha last year I ran a full dune setup and my fastest pass was a 5.33 and that was with shitty gearing.. after I changed my gearing it pulled a lot harder from bottom to top!!!! my goal is to run a 4.80 with struts and wheelie bar... its going back to the shop this weekend for a lil touch up so hopefully that helps :buddythings0002:  -Simon

I want to see how the pv setup runs
Should be killer in the dunes
Should come off smooth off the line at bako with good gearing on race gas

That's a good question
I'm not sure ,I bought the 5mil crank and cylinder setup about a year ago and I didn't find any markings on it
It's a Esr setup
Its at Nates bieng built right now

hey Simon I know his stuff runs good. Just messing with him.
And damn do I wish my bike was that nice looking. Working on it here and there though.

I am also hoping to be in the 4.8's. Well thats the goal I am putting out there for myself. Need to pick up some 10pdl haulers I think. My worn out 8pdl did not hook hard enough.

4.8's is a good goal my friend!! for our setups at least.. hope we can both get there after struts and wheelie bars... :)  yeah id like to get some triple buff 10 paddle rippers but im pretty sure its not gunna happen!! lol unless someone would like to let me borrow some for that weekend?!?!?! lmfao

what was your setup when you tried the 8 paddle haulers russell? I have 7 paddle 74 ro that i normally run and 10 paddle haulers with a 76 ro i think.  My bike runs good with both but better with the 7. Thats at pismo though
Title: 300' drags

Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on October 26, 2013, 10:28:36 PM
oh ok just wondering.  i would think that more paddle would be better there than at pismo right?
Title: 300' drags
Post by: Rupp250 on October 26, 2013, 10:33:05 PM
It's a 363 Sphinx. 22x11x8 8pdle hauler. There not full buffs though. I run struts at the track and I set it up so the swing arm is parallel with the ground. With the frame level as well. I did not hook good enough. My 60ft times were slow but my trap speed was good. Really just learning this track stuff as I go and have to do it on a budget.
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on October 26, 2013, 10:50:58 PM
how did your 8 paddle do at pismo? just trying to get an idea of the difference between the track and pismo so that im not completely lost when choosing tires ya know? I get what your sayin though

just take both sets with you johnny... your 10paddle and 7paddle and try them both out! and see what times you get... lol then ill try your 10paddles too haha
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on October 26, 2013, 11:17:59 PM
i probably will. haha im good with that. I have to get some honda wheels for them though.
Title: 300' drags
Post by: rsss396 on October 26, 2013, 11:28:19 PM
I just cant see a saber not pulling 10 paddle haulers up any hill, your motor had no problems with 14 paddle extremes in the flats.
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on October 26, 2013, 11:33:43 PM
im still talking about my 370 dave.  I figure the saber will take a little while before i get it to where i can run it right.
Title: 300' drags
Post by: rsss396 on October 26, 2013, 11:38:49 PM
Ok, I still think your 370 can pull the 10 paddle haulers but I maybe wrong, just depends on the how much power it makes
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on October 26, 2013, 11:42:11 PM
i think it can too. it pulls them fine in the dunes but i guess we'll find out!

your the man johnny...  im really thinking about getting some 10 paddle haulers... but I wanna try some before I spend the money on them... haha
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on October 27, 2013, 10:50:47 AM
Haha yeah i get that! They have yamaha wheels now bit i'll get some honda wheels before then. The drag axle makes it easy to run any paddles we have
Title: 300' drags
Post by: Rupp250 on October 27, 2013, 01:28:19 PM
Johnny you should be able to run the 10's. My bike dyno's right under 70hp. It wasn't even hooking hard enough to worry about needing a bar. It just blew the tires off at the line.

My plan is to run some 10pdl's and take some weight out of the lock-up so it will slip a little on the initial hit.
Title: 300' drags
Post by: johnny22 on October 27, 2013, 03:30:18 PM
Ok well im gonna try both either way. You probably lost a lot of time spinning that much. For 70hp 10 paddle sounds about right. When i talkes to matt shearer a few weeks ago he said the most he saw an esr setup like mine make was 50-55 so mine is probably in there. He said he could get me to 70-72 on gasyou though if i sent him my motor

Oregon is not too far. Make the drive. There will be plenty of us drag newbs there that you can school.
You can stay in a tent at the track or there are Hotels near by.

Well I just put my vacation time in,  if it is approved I will be getting there on Thursday. A couple of us will have trailers there so if you need a place to hang out during the day or get some shade come by.

Cool man! We're planning on making it as of now. I'll probably just run my 370. I cant seem to find extra money anywhere for the saber right now.
