I found a nice 88 89 swing arm that is in great condition I know it wont fit cause I have a 86 but if the only difference is that the mounting hole goes all the way across and mine dosent I can cut the new one and put bushings in I then can it work. The one I'm looking at is either a plus 2 or 4. And is there any thing else I'd have to do

So you're looking at 2 different aftermarket swingarms (one +2 and one +4) that are both 89 style? If you can cut & fab the center section then you should be good to go. Only thing to check is that they're link style swingarms instead of no-link.

It is a link style and I'm not 100 percent sure that it is a +2 it might be longer but I will message him about it then. And I am only looking at 1 swing arm.

The 88-89 frames have an incorporated mount that only utilizes the upper rear mounting hole on the engine. I've seen where 88-89 swingers have been used on 86-87 frames & people welded tabs to the frame (on top of the linkage mount) that bolts to the lower rear engine mounting hole. Adding mounts like that would be a lot easier than cutting & modifying the swinger to accept an 86-87 rear engine mount.

You must also remember that the length changed. A + 2" will only be a +1" on your '86' frame.

In my opinion I would buy what’s meant to fit rather than chopping one up,refabricating it to work and possibly compromising its integrity.If you look at the time,material and over all effort to make it work you most likely could get one ready to go for same cost less effert.

Another thing that comes to mind with cutting an 88/89 to fit an 86 is how will the bearings and seals seat on the inside area that your cutting away.
