Title: First Time Starting the R in TWO YEARS - Leak Down Tester Questions
Post by: Tbone07 on August 21, 2020, 12:00:46 PM
I've been pathetically absent from this forum, and it's time to get back into it. Started the 250r up last night for the first time in ALMOST TWO YEARS. It revved to the moon uncontrollably, so I want to make a better leak-down tester this time around, and pressure test before i troubleshoot any further.

I'd like to use some sort of hand pump, like one found on a stethoscope, and put an inline low-pressure gauge on it as well.

Does anybody have a any pics or links of what they're using? I've got a list of stuff on McMaster Carr i'm ready to buy, but I'm not finding much on the hand-pump part. I suppose I could just use a bike pump.

Here's what I'm using right now. I previously pressurized using an air-compressor, which I absolutely don't want to do again.

My leak tester is very similar to yours Tbone. I do have a 90° elbow on mine and a T for a 0-30 psi gauge.
I pump it up with a bicycle pump.

Yep I've seen a bunch of those. But finding a fitting and one-way valve to connect it to the tester is what I can't find

I think this is what I might end up doing. Was wanting to make one contained compact tool with the hand bladder pump, but it is what it is.

I tried the hand bladder and didn't like it
. It took a long time to get it up to 8psi

Made this one with parts from home depot:(https://thumbs2.imagebam.com/31/c1/cb/db00641351062681.jpg) (http://www.imagebam.com/image/db00641351062681)
& I air it up with this:(https://thumbs2.imagebam.com/c4/fe/35/c59aac1351062568.jpg) (http://www.imagebam.com/image/c59aac1351062568)
To use it on a boyesen rad valve I use this downspout adapter:(https://thumbs2.imagebam.com/81/af/91/7f182f1351062480.jpg) (http://www.imagebam.com/image/7f182f1351062480)

I just placed my McMaster Carr order to make one just like this. I scrapped the bladder pump idea, i'll just use a bike pump.

Thanks for the ideas.
