ok guys Im almost positive I have some water pump issues. My bike is overheating but my temp gauge isn't going past 200. I checked my head the O-rings look mint and the piston was dry. I took all of the water out and filled the water pump all the way to the top and turned the kicker by hand, I think the water should have pumped out but the water didn't move. Before i start taking the water pump apart is there any better way of testing the water pump?

With the bike running pull the radiator cap. You should see the coolant moving pretty good.

I tried the cap off trick with my truck as well and I couldn't tell if it was moving. The bike same thing just looks like its vibrating. I was cranking the kicker pretty hard and the water just slooshed back and forth instead of pumping out of the hole.

easiest way to tell if pump is working is the rads should rise in temp similar to the jug. if rads are cold and engine hot you got a problem. ive seen plastic impellers on ktm break but thats nearly impossible with a aluminum one like honda. maybe the gears are stripped off the pump shaft ?

Ok today I took off the water pump cover and the impeller is tight and spinning properly. I don't understand why it wouldn't be pumping.

You might want to try back flushing the radiator hoses in case there is something blocking one of them. Pull the hose from the motor and run water towards the radiator back through the cap 1 at a time to dislodge any foreign objects.

Are you checking for flow by trying to kick it? If so you'll never see anything that way. The motor needs to be running to see flow. And it won't come out the radiator cap hole. You'll just see it flowing past the hole. Rev it a little and the flow should pick up.

Ok so opened the rad and checked everything and there is no blockage anywhere. I everything inside the pump looks fine I don't understand why it wouldnt pump water. If the seal is leaking would there be oil in the water?

If the mechanical seal leaks, water goes out the weep hole. If the oil seal leaks, it goes into the tranny. If the impeller is hooked to the CB and turning then the water is circulating. If your radiator cap is leaking pressure then it can overheat.
