Title: Kick starter spindle collar
Post by: The norm on September 22, 2020, 12:50:23 AM
Good evening everyone! I am in search of the 20x27 collar for an 86 kick starter spindle shaft, part number  28283-HA2-010. I can't afford Ebay prices so be gentle lol. If I can't find a collar I suppose I will machine one out of 4140.

Loren, I just checked to see if I had a spare....no spares.  I can get one made if you don’t have the time.

I think I have the time as I am stuck in the shop at work until I get off light duty. The shop I am in has a pretty fantastic machine shop area!!! I just worry about the dimensions. Is it really 20x27? I will machine one and see lol

1.065" OD or 27mm  .803 ID  and 1.178" long, about 30mm long. I think Carlos makes them.

Lmao me too!
Luckily I have a lathe or two at my disposal and a supply of 4140 ready for me to transform in to a collar.

Why 4140 ? If you have it laying around, great, but I probably would have gone with aluminum. The kick starter is not a high load area. I also have lots of aluminum laying around.

I used 4140 because it will never wear out. Also Honda used a hardened steel collar precision ground. Another reason I chose 4140 over aluminum was because of the catastrophic failure of my aluminum clutch basket. The flying aluminum pieces did damage to my clutch cover, clutch frictions, and scratched up the clutch area of the right case. The clutch cover ended up getting cracked in the kick starter spindle bore.
