Starting a new project. Picked up a pretty rough 85 ATC250r and have been hoarding a never been installed Missile kit. Building it with one of my CR500r motors.
Will post more pics as it progresses.
-
Sweet ...I was trying to build one of those a few years back but he never came thru with any kits.im about to pull the trigger on a bvc trikes 2001 cr250 big wheel kit.i have a 330 cr non POV motor im going to put in it.
-
Are you going to run modern forks or are you staying with the Atc set up?
-
Not sure on the forks yet. Looking into the pros and cons of the modern fork conversion.
-
A guy I just sold my Atc frame to got a set of bvc trikes billet triples and had 08450r forks shortened.then reanodized a deeper gold like Oem wheels..I’ll post a picture
-
Here his set up
-
This is gonna be sweet I enjoy your build threads
-
Thanks Jeremy. How you doing? It's been a while.

CR500 electric start?
Unfortunately I deleted the video but Richard sent me one of a walk around of his cr500af right after he put the electric start kit on it. It's an awesome set up.
-
Stephen you always have the most badazz projects!
-
I don't have the video of the E/start Cr500AF anymore as well, I'll make a new one. I did try to post the video of the E/start when I had it on the CR500 quad but it would not upload.
I also may pull the plug on this conversion. Steve made me aware of the BVC set up and may go that route for my CR500AF?
Thinking I may just assemble the missile with all the parts I have already ordered and sell it without the engine. It will be left stock for the 250r engine?
Plan on talking with BVC before I decide.
-
I may have the video of you starting your TRX500E. i dont know what happend but i lost many of the videos i had. Most are a blank screen with sound.
-
Decided to build the Missile.
A couple of pics of the tear down and set the motor in place to start the surgery.
-
Going to be a sweet build! Do you think you will have it ready for the 2021 R meet ?
-
It should be done in the next 2 or 3 months. All the parts are ordered and on the way. The forks are the only unknown at the moment still not sure if I'm doing the inverted conversion or not.
-
I believe the ktm sx85 front forks have the correct travel. You just need to get them set up for the machine and your weight.
Loren
-
Yeah the KTM forks are the correct length, having trouble finding someone with the triple clamps for the forks.

Yeah that's the trouble. My buddy Luke researched forks and triples for his 86 ATC and he couldn't find anyone machining triples. He is planning to machine his own when time allows.
-
You might have read this thread already but I found this on 3ww: http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/51514-Crazy-inverted-tricks-on-a-ATCR250R!
-
I’m pretty sure bvc trikes can machine the triples for whatever diameter fork leg your using..the guy who bought my trike frame had the triples in the pictures I posted machined for 2008 crf450r legs and they came from bvc with the matching axle and billet hub..he had a suspension guy shorten them and set them up for the build..
-
I misread and thought this was someone’s else’s thread lol
Rjt500, glad you decided to go through with it. Very cool

I don't have the equipment to machine my own, wish I did.

I have seen that post. Not the direction I want to go.

This will most likely be the direction I go … the BVC triples with the CRF forks... eventually. For now I'm going to re-spring the OEM forks. Put a big dent in the bank account already on this project.

Thanks. Most all of the parts will be here this week and I can get started... of course pics will follow.

Swingarm pivot bolt showed up today. Engine is positioned to line up with the swingarm jack shaft sprocket. Time to fab a swing arm spacer and engine mounts.

So cool you decided to build it. Coming along well. I for sure can’t wait to see it finished. I never seen a missile in person until this past summer (FULLBORE has one in their show room).

Not sure why the picture is sideways?

Not sure why our site sometimes posts pics sideways....but if you open the pic is shows right side up.

No progress pics yet. Been working on the rear suspension, long story short all the missile kits come with a custom dog bone for the rear shock which I did not get with the kit I purchased. Could not get the bike set up correctly using the stock ATC parts and the dog bone is the missing link. Yesterday I spoke with John Kite the original builder of these kits and he confirmed the custom dog bone. He also told me he sold the business and shared the new owners info with me. missilekit.net is the new owners website. He is planning on building the kits and offer parts as well. He also said he has the waiting list from John of people who wanted to buy a kit. Have the dog bone ordered and on the way, Schmidty Racing has my rear shock and will rebuild. Working on fabrication of new frame rails but want the rear shock dialed in before I set the motor in place to build mounts.
-
Some new progress, have the new dog bone installed, motor is now placed and ready for new frame rails. Will bend them this weekend. Decided to take advantage of the BVC black Friday sale and ordered the inverted fork conversion kit, bought a set of crf250x forks, will have BVC shorten them. Ordering the Panthera electric start kit. Going all black, bought new plastics, oversized gas tank, black rims, new oversized radiators. The rear fender is the problem now, it's red. Anyone have any info on wrapping plastics with vinyl wrap? Tried a couple of local shops, they won't wrap atv plastics. May have to paint it. I will post some pics in the next day or two.
-
Amazon sells vinyl for pretty cheap. id give it a go. lots of youtube videos to show how its done.
-
Have you though of trying plastic dip?I have heard of people using it just havnt seen the quality in person

I have seen the videos and your right the vinyl is pretty cheap. May have to give it a shot.

I have not looked into that? I want gloss black, the new plastics are shiny gloss black. Unfortunately the brand new gas tank is not a shiny as the plastics. May have to see if Kevin can work his magic and polish the new tank?
-
Finally some pics to post! BVC fork conversion kit, CRF250X forks and recovered the seat.
-
Forks installed. new front rim and tire. Back rim is on backorder. Have new frame rails but still working on dialing in actual ride height before I set the motor.
-
Got impatient seeing all the new shiny parts sitting on the shelf, so I put a few on for a quick visual. Frame and swing arm will be black as well as the pipe. Next up waiting on the rear shock to finish dialing in the final ride height then finish the frame and motor mounts.
-
Just my .02, but I think the gold swingarm looks sweet.
-
It’s coming together really nice.there was a guy on 3wheelerworld.com in the marketplace/store that was making carbon fiber models of the plastics they looked really nice.some carbon shrouds would look solid..

If the forks and swingarm were closer in color I would consider keeping the swingarm gold.

I talked to Cadet, the guy that took over making the missile kits, he is going to be selling black rear fenders. I will vinyl wrap mine for now until he has the black fenders available.

No new progress yet, still waiting for my rear shock. Schmitdy says they will get on it right after the holidays. Cleaning and painting parts for now.
-
Some new progress, unfortunately no rear shock yet. But I did get my black rear rim. It has been on back order since October. Finally canceled the order when I found a pair of them on Ebay from Rocky Mountain ATV that are used for $100.00. Also received my electric start kit from Panthera.
-
Well done! Could you please post some vids of you ripping on it, I couldn't even imagine how much fun that is going to be.
-
Very nice!!!! Are you going to be at the Winchester Bay meet up?
Joe

Sorry guys,
This project has been on hold for too long. Been a crazy few months. Back on the build, been thrashing on it to get ready for Labor day at Winchester. On the home stretch now final assembly starts today. I will post some pics tomorrow. Sorry I missed the 250r meet. Labor day will actually be my first trip this year to Winchester when I usually have three or four trips already. Like I said been a crazy few months.
-
IT'S Alive. Don't really have any progress pics. but here is the end result.

Well i was unable to get the video to load, most likely user error. Heading to Winchester Bay tomorrow for it's maiden voyage! Hopefully all goes well. Any tips on how to get a video to load would be appreciated.
Thanks
