Title: Refresh...1995 cr250r from original owner
Post by: Action69 on December 01, 2020, 08:48:04 PM
I just acquired this 95 cr250r from the original owner a 65yr old gentleman,.we met thru a mutual friend and we’ve been talking about me buying this since the beginning of the year.hes having some health issues and needed the money so he finally regretfully sold her to me.he knows I intend to keep it so I think that gave him some comfort. He has a lot of history with this bike and he really didn’t want to sell.He gave me the Oem tank which is a take off in excellent condition. My plans are to get a set of ufo plastic, throttle jockey Oem replica decals and seat cover.I plan to replace whatever hardware isn’t correct or damaged and keep it as close to stock as possible.Unfortunately earlier this year I had a set of very nice condition 95 oem plastic minus the fenders and I sold them..I also had a purple vintage renthal bar pad which I just located and ordered another.I plan on putting new tires and rebuilding the rear shock and I’ll use it occasionally..I’ll post pics as I proceed.

I love my 96! I bought mine from the 2nd owner in 2000. First owner used it for MX racing and the 2nd owner used it for woods riding. The 2nd owner set it up right. FmF gnarly pipe, flywheel weight, skid plate, and low gearing.
What type of riding are you going to do on it?

I ride trails near my house as well as  beach front. The previous owner did some enduro stuff with it and I believe he said it had a flywheel weight.I also have a 99 that’s my regular rider and a 94 in pieces that will be a future build. This one I’m going to clean up and go for Oem look.My 94 I have some cool bits for it and I’m going for the McGrath replica look..

I picked up a 96 in May & have been keeping an eye out for a rear wheel. The fronts seem to be plentiful on ebay but the rears are another story. I love Honda's but just like all the other great bikes they have made they stopped supporting them awhile ago & have discontinued most all of the important parts.

Kevin both the 94&95 air boxes are white but the side number plates mount different on each.so they are all one year only.94,95&96..

CRF450 wheels are a direct swap as far as I know

From my understanding the only real differences in wheels between the earlier steel frame bikes & later bikes is bearing & axle sizes. The bearings needed to mix years are readily available but apparently finding the right seals is the issue from what I read.

1989-2007 have the same 32 spoke count. So if you simply need a new rim and not the entire wheel then you have plenty of options.

Nice score. I’m not much into bikes anymore but I wouldn’t mind a 94 CR250 I wanted one back in 1994. I remember drooling over them at the Honda dealer in Vegas I even got a job at Walmart to save up and buy one but I was 16 got my license and then all that mattered was having a car

Nice project!

I miss having a bike. My mom was a dirt bike rider lol so I started out on one. Old Suzuki ds 80. Then a cr80 and so on. I would really enjoy a 250 on my property.

Here are a couple of pictures from yesterday’s ride,I had to go easy the chain is stretched and the rear shock needs a rebuild so it’s quite bouncy.she runs strong and starts on first kick..I sold some parts this week so I’m going to get some parts ordered for it..

These old chromoly frame CR's aren't that cheap anymore. Just like with the R, older CR parts are becoming more scarce & the prices continue to go up. The 96 I picked up for 600 back in May is a basket case & even though I already spent 700 on parts to start a resto I'll still be sinking at least another 1500-2k on it to make it a nice rider.

meh, we are going through a bubble, I hope.  all these people forced to stay at home have got the recreation market bonkers right now. i mean people are asking $3500 for mid 90s warriors!

I think some bikes are way over priced at the moment and others are just becoming more collectible and rare.we shall see.I buy my stuff to enjoy if I sell and make a profit that’s a bonus to me..I personally like to find stuff and make deals.to me that’s half the fun..
