1985 atc250r take out engine.  First time ever opening it up.  Ignition side marking (orange paint marks).

Was the shift pattern boss missing from all 85 stator covers or was it added during the 85 production year?

Kevin, the 85 was the only year that the stator cover did not have the shift pattern.
