Has anyone ever ran 23" front tires on a TRX250R? I follow a Banshee guy on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mrkayak/ (https://www.instagram.com/mrkayak/) who is running 23" buffed GBC MX tires. I solely ride in dunes and would love a little more "cushion". I run a 23" buffed mohawk on my 85 ATC so I am aware of the weight and height. To me, the Skat Trak mohawks just look tiny at 21". Currently running a 21x10-8 rear tire and like the look of a taller front tire.

It's funny - when I read your title I thought of him as well. I met him at dunefest and I actually thought his fronts were 22" until he mentioned they were 23". We talked a bit about tires since I had custom 22x7" tires buffed for me and didn't like them (I believe this was less to due with tire size as it did with rear ride height being too high, causing the front to push too much). He seemed to love the 23" fronts a lot.

Created an account just so I could answer this cause I get asked about this all the time at the dunes.
I run a 23.5” Goldspeed sand tire in the front and 21x11x8 rear. I highly recommend the taller front tires! Was one of the best things I did for my dune setup. The dunes get so torn up by the side by sides now so it’s nice having the extra clearance running taller tires, plus they’re smoother cause they kinda just monster truck over all the chop!

I’ve run the 22” dune trackers for years. Always liked the extra height over the 21”. Been thinking about trying the 23” goldspeeds. Glamis does get rough. A little extra height also helps on the Dumont razorbacks.

where did you guys buy your 23.5 tall tires from? I can't find them for sale.

Looks like the Goldspeeds are out of stock everywhere. Another option is to get some 23” GBC tires and get them buffed.

I grew up in the SW and Glamis... What psi do you run in your tires? I run 2.5-3psi in the front on 21" skat trak mohawks in the front, and 3-3.5psi Hauler's in the rear. That made a large enough difference for me to be comfortrable enough with the chop, and still keep a lower center of gravity for fast riding in the smooth.

Those goldspeeds look sweet!

Anyone know what skat trak charges to buff a set of tires that you drop off?

I want to say I paid $75/tire to buff 2 MX tires 22" tall fronts down to SLS buff with a "mohawk" in the middle. That was in 2018 I think so prices probably have come up a bit.

Is it that hard to buff off tread from a front tire yourself?

It would be time consuming but probably not that hard. I think the hard part would be buffing them evenly if you don't have a way to spin them while your doing it.

I just had a set done about a month ago. $150 for the pair, plus $90 to ship from CA to AZ. It cost me $55 to ship to them, but the guy told me shipping out of CA has gotten really expensive.
*I take it back... it might have been $150 per tire.
