Title: nerf bars
Post by: atvmxr on January 20, 2022, 12:07:33 PM
I guess this is the spot to ask.  Gotta get new nerfs with heel guards to race XC.  I know AC fit like crap.  What about Rath, factory 43, or something else out there that I havent found?   I see Alba make them too, but they look kinda cheesy.

Any of those fit well?  Plenty of room for big boots?

Everything I ever had from Alba was absolute shit.

I’d stick with Factory43, Rath or AC racing.  Maybe Walsh will make some but how long is the wait?   Are you using a OEM or aftermarket frame?  If aftermarket is it a propeg?  From what I hear AC has gotten a lot better.

I have a brand new set of AC pro-pegs with heel guards that I’ll be installing shortly. I’ll provide an update once I’ve had a chance to mount them up. As Joe mentioned, I think their fitment has improved. Also, the price is a couple hundred less than Rath or F43 if that matters.

Yes, please give me / us an update on install.

I tried ordering a set of factory 43 nerfs a couple months ago through Glenn Turner.   According to him, Factory 43 won't make the evo nerf bars anymore because the fitment is not correct.  He will make them without heel guards.  I haven't ordered a set of Rath yet, but that's the route I plan on going.

Absolutely love my Rath nerf bars. I do wish I went with heel guards though. But the pegs are so damn sharp there ain't no way in hell my boot is slipping off.

I finally got a chance to install my AC pro-pegs last night. Overall, the fit and finish is great. Everything came together really well without any issues. It did take me a few minutes to figure out the correct orientation to get the front cross-member in place; however, part of that was the added gussets limiting the ability to manipulate it. I had the stainless pegs powder coated black, otherwise everything else is as it came from AC.

The overall width is a little wide at 48” for my liking. Since this is for an XC build, I may modify them a bit to narrow them up a little more. That’s my choice/preference, nothing AC did wrong. If this was a duner/MX build I’d send it as-is.

Bushwesl, those look good.  Glad to see they are coming with the bolt on foot peg (just like the old AC Racing Blackline series),

As a follow-up, I was able to make a couple of small modifications allowing the nerf bars to engage a bit further, putting them at about 46" in total width - 2" narrower than before.

The front nerf tubes were bottoming out against the front cross-member, preventing additional engagement.  I cut the front nerf tubes down on each side, allowing complete engagement, and then had to straighten the rear heel guard brackets to accommodate. Not a big deal. I'm still happy with the purchase and happier now with the narrower width.

Are people riding in Ronald McDonald boots? The kick up on those Factory 43 pegs is so far out there it seems like they would be pretty useless. I like the nerf bars & the heel guards but not digging the 2' wide pegs.
