First race of our series was Saturday, on my 44 bday. They have vintage and trike classes. We had 6 Rs and a banshee. Next race should have 3-4 more Rs that weren’t quite ready.
4 trikes, 2 atc Rs, a Tri z, and a 250sx
Dave Moore was out there helping guys with tunes and stuff. Had his sponsored rider out there on a new motor they are developing. For some reason they didn’t put a desert tank on and had to stop for fuel. At which I passed his rider for the lead
Dave came over to congratulate me and tell me “you rode the shot out of that R!”
4 ~six mile loops in under a hour. I had some of the fastest lap times of all classes besides the pros

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Congratulations

Awesome job!

44 and still crushing it. You give me hope
-
I'm 40 and falling apart. No way could I run a race in the shape I am in lol
-
Happy Birthday. I’ve never raced. Too old to start now lol.
Cool to see DMR out there with you guys. I met Dave and his sponsored rider last year.

I’m curious about the new MX cylinder in development.

Croat, are you in Texas? on any of the "R" Fb pages?
Anyway, I have a ROWDY Pro-X 310 (295cc) that was ported by Jerry Hall and it has been on Dave's dyno and the new "development" cylinder Dave is working on makes 2-3 more HP than my cylinder everywhere on the curve.. Displacement is comparable. Lot of front side to the hp curve. Broad power. He'll give more details soon as its almost done.

Ajbuilder250r, I’m in Ohio. I was on many R FB pages (too many that I have since deleted myself from most of them….still on a few select ones).

What were the other components that were tested with my cylinder...pipe, head, carb, reed, ignition curve, intake ?? I have built a lot of different engine packages for the Pro-x 310 and ESR 310 cylinders. I have seen peak power range from low 40s to low 60s with a zillion different shape power curves because many cylinders may have one or more components in the package that is wrong.

Unfortunately I am not. I am more of an unsocial media person.

Jerry, it is setup with a cone-shaped intake similar to the LED style that Dave made with a large K&N filter on it. PWK 39mm, V-Force 3 reeds, TRX-5 inframe (small headpipe) and ESR silencer. OEM ignition with +4 degrees of timing advance. It's a BEAST. Dave doesn't think you left ANY power on the table with that cylinder. Masterfully developed and ported. The other cylinder I mentioned is apples to oranges in the comparison. It is not a Pro-X or and ESR cylinder, it has different and more transfer ports, etc. We think you NAILED it. LOVE this cylinder. If you see something in the setup you don't like, I got my ears on.. You developed it. I got it secondhand out of Arizona. It ran with 350s, 363s and 380s sand dragging at the dunes last trip...

I put the unported stock cylinder in it for the race with the new DMR coolhead and made it more mild for the woods, great setup for XC woods

after taking the summer off, the race series resumed this past Saturday. had 8 sign ups in the vintage class and 5-6 in the trike class. 1 of the Rs didnt start though so there was 6 250R and a Banshee. The trike class Im not entirely sure, i saw a triZ and a 350x, i think all the rest were ATC 250Rs. There might have been a 250sx in mix
I got a bad start, stuck in traffic most of the race, finished in 3rd which means I lost my points lead in the series. My son was racing the blaster class with another kid on a 250x. It was a fun track layout, next race is Oct 29.
Dave Moore was out there again helping guys with tunes, setup, showing off parts and also taking pics and videos during the races. Great guy that loves 250Rs!
-
Is this the same race series that Zach Racette is racing in?
Good to hear Dave Moore is attending.
Joe

yes it is

That’s so cool that you have enough riders for a vintage class. We struggle to get enough riders to field all the regular classes, let alone a specific vintage class.
Is this last weekend’s race? https://youtu.be/o-Ez02YrQtA
Dave posted it to one of the FB groups. That’s awesome that he comes out to support you guys. He did a really nice job on video filming and editing as well.

yep, thats it. if you pause at the 46second mark, thats me on the left standing up next to my 88 baja 250R, blank spot where andrew should have been, Chad Smith rolling up late getting his R in position (full laeger, Tpin, CT310, etc), Kurt Z on his 310R, Zach #13 on his LSR 310R, Jeremy #59 on his R - dont know much about it, Will on his 420 banshee, and then a new guy I dont know on the far right side.
At the 1:24 mark you can see me, Kurt, and new guy still trying to get our Rs started when the rest of the class has taken off!
Chad was leading nearly the whole race, but he ran out of gas with like 2 minutes left, so that got Zach his first win. Jeremy finished second. I was 3rd. Will was 4th. Kurt 5th I think. Kurt is a trooper, he keeps having issues at the races but is determined to get it figured out. First race his ignition wasnt working right. Second race something was going with his carrier/axle nut/ so that his chain would stay tight. This race his shifter stripped out.
Overall the attendance was way down, but the vintage and atc classes the numbers are increasing each race as guys get their builds completed and/or drag their buddies along to come race.

Finally got another first and got my points lead back. I started in second and it was a close pack until 45 minutes ish I finally found a way past first and got myself a little space from the group. 5 trx250r and a banshee.
Not sure how many raced but there were 10+ atcs (200x, 350xs, 250rs, and a tri z). Maybe a 250sx
Shocks from sf racing worked fantastic, running the zeel from Dave Moore along with a few billet parts, and Drw zeel mount and skids.

Right on!!! Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

I remember in my younger days riding in all seasons especially in the miserable rain and snow. Good luck and please keep us posted on how you do.

A lesser man couldn't get it done, but you should have no problem.

@atvmxr how did you do?

guess you forgot this series started this year on my 44th birthday.....

well instead of being 42 ish, the temp was 37; and instead of drizzle it was rain. what a mess. hands freezing, couldnt see but out of little spot at the top of my googles. slip sliding all over the place missing sharp turns and running into trees, or nearly falling off 5 ft drop offs, sliding off the side of a hill instead of going up it. Becuase we were going slower, there was 4 minutes left on the clock after the 3rd lap, so had to do another lap. That made the race about hour and 15 minutes out in that crap. I moved over to let a guy in a different class pass me on toward the end of the first lap, but he hit me into a tree when he made the pass. hit hard enough the grips spun loose off the handle bars. Clutch and throttle cables got muck in them and started binding up, not returning when I let off. I hope I didnt smoke my clutch or hurt the engine. It was a real battle of self will to keep going to the finish.
But I got 2nd and the guy I was in a points battle with had his chain break. So with one race left I have a 27 point lead and the series championshiop is mine unofficially. Track would have been really fun if it wasnt raining
need to get in touch with guys that race snow cross and figure out some good warm gloves that still have good grip to them.
Race in december and they released the schedule for next year, racing Jan and Feb that well be cold too. Hopefully not muddy mess to boot.
-
welp, all packed up to go race tomorrow. Should be about 45-50 with a 8-10mph north wind; little chilly but not too bad hopefully. i know you northern guys are laughing at that.
Found some 100% Brisker gloves that are for cool weather riding. we will see how they do.
-
Good luck as always. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Yeah a little colder here in NE Ohio. The 45-50 would be a heat wave lol.
Joe
-
Good luck! Yes... we are laughing at you ;D Like Joe said, that would be a heat wave here.

How was the race, @atvmxr??
