Title: 86 seat latch on 88 pan
Post by: broken1 on May 29, 2022, 01:13:40 PM
I picked up an 88 pan & foam years ago thats been sitting because I only have 86's. The locating pins & 2 of the mounting studs had already been removed before I got it so the only option was to get an aftermarket seat mount. I'm cheap & like to use what I have laying around so instead of buying an aftermarket mount I did some slight mods & installed an 86-87 rear mount to it. The 2 outer studs line up with the 86-87 mount so I laid it on for a guide & than drilled the front 2 holes through the pan. I used 2 M6x25mm flanged bolts, star washers & 2 serrated flanged nuts. I figured with the serrated nuts & star washers the bolts shouldn't come loose if I used red loctite but than noticed how easy it would be to make the bolt secure in the event the nuts ever came loose. I drilled holes through the bolt heads for a small allen wrench than drilled holes in the factory mounting studs next to the new bolt holes. After cutting the allen wrenches to fit I dropped them in place & loctited the nuts on. For added insurance I epoxied around the bolt heads & allen wrenches so they will for sure never come loose once the seat cover is on. Here's some pics:

I guess since Seat Pans are not available...wouldn't a company like Fullbore or Maier benefit from producing these ? Surely there is a market for them now :D

John, I remember seeing a post online somewhere about a shop that was looking at making seat pans.  I’ll look for the screen shot.

Only post I’ve ever seen from this guy/shop.  Never heard of him.
Seen this earlier this year.

Ah...so there was interest and someone trying to have them made.

When I saw Bubba's Racing ....I thought of BHP Racing (Bubba's House of Power Racing - they're in Arkansas) so not the same.

With Seat pans being Vacuum formed.....it shouldn't be too hard to get a mold made and have them produced.....I know the 86-87 would be easier as the 88-89 has the front seat mount integrated into the pan.

Hopefully they will be available....it'll really help keep the 250R alive!

:)
