Anybody got a set of ESR cases? Just curious about them and looking for a little feedback. At the price listed on their website I'm tempted to buy a set and put on the shelf.
-
Curious also,if anyone has them here we will get honest feedback. I THINK I read on here that someone said no issues at all,if so that is a great thing!!
-
My cousin (rough250r) has a set. Hopefully he'll chime in. Been way too busy lately and haven't had much time to take s look at them.
-
I bought a set of the tall cases about 5 months ago and have had no problems with them.

What stroke crank are your tall case's made for?
-
Sorry to bring it up but .net had quite a few replays about the cases. Deck height and center gaskets, counter balancer bore not round, just a couple off the top of my head.
Someone else mentioned that a racer at an event had a full ESR motor cases included. Said he ran good, when it ran and did not complete weekend.
This is just what I have read on the forums.

Sorry Josh, this site does not want biased information. We really don't care what Carlos had to say about them. Were looking for members who have had experience with the new cases. Thanks Tony

My crank is a 5 mil. I believe that the tall cases just eliminate having to use the spacer plate. So I don't think the tall cases can be used with a short rod crank.

That is the info that I was looking for and I have a question for you. Did you do the engine build yourself? Did you use an oem center case gasket and threebond liquid gasket in the tall base section or what did you do for a center case gasket?
-
The motor was put together by a local builder and all the gaskets were factory oem.
-
Cool. Probably the as recommended oem plus for center gasket. Thanks.

I have a set of the new ESR cases.. for the most part they are pretty good.. I give them a 8 out of 10. The nice thing about them is that you can buy them with a while bearing kit pressed in and ready to go. You do have to alter the cavity for the counter balance a bit to get it in and able to spin freely but that's the only problem for the most part. The finish is a little bit rough..it just kind of looks like the powder coater was in a hurry .. not a big deal really but just figured I'd mention it. Here's a pic of the new motor build.. should be up in about a month
Edit I got the stock height cases but machined out for a 330 ..so I'll still be running a spacer plate

What did u do you do to remedy the counter balance bore?
Tony, I respect .org and you. The issues I brought up was from other members. I did not have Carla in mind. Im Sorry if it came off that way.
-
I took a dremel with a cone shaped grinding wheel and about 15 minutes of time... from what I remember it was only on one of the case halves that really needed touching up..
On a side note what island are you on hawaiiysr? Oahu?
-
Yes sir I'm on Oahu:) I ride up kahuku, time allowing. Still recovering from a broken wrist so for the time being I'm a forum junky:excitement:
So you didn't have to take much off? I just don't like the idea of having to grind on a new set of cases or sending them out to a machine shop
-
Nice I was out there for a while, I used to ride bmx with a guy named Zed who was into dirt bikes as well.. he does the stayhi videos..
As far as the cases go its really not a big deal. You could pretty much see by eye where you would have to grind a little bit..as you look in from the out side of the cases you can see a bump and that bump is what prevents the lobe on the counter balance to pass through and fully seat the counter balance. I'll see if I can get a picture when I get home from work..
-
Others have posted no problem so I bet that counter ballancer area recieved any needed tweaks. As more .org members go this route we will get more feedback.

Nice looking motor. I believe the outside surface is very rough as I have a few ESR clutch covers. Just went heavy on the paint for a smooth shiny surface.
-
I agree its working with the std casting suface as well. I was surprised that they were as smooth as they were in pics with just a powder job. Both the case and clutch covers being that smooth with powder is a bonus surprise to me. Not perfect but I like it.

Yes puma they do seem a bit rough in spots.. I got one of the first couple on the second batch so they may have remedied the counter balance issue as I'm sure they have received some feed back about the minor issue of the counter balance cavity.. I am truly grateful though and support them fully for stepping up and making products for people that have the 250r passion/ addiction! But if you are building a motor that may be of show quality I would suggest getting the raw unpowdered cases and doing all the prep work to make them smooth.. all and all they seem great so far on my work bench ha!

First runs of anything typically have a few bugs to work out. ESR makes a great product so I'm sure they have addressed or are currently addressing any problems. From the feedback I've seen so far I may just have to put in a few more hours of overtime and pick a set up.

So I tried to snap a pic if there area that needed altering in the counter balance area but couldn't get a clear shot.. more or less if you look in from your right side case half you will see the small area that has a radius shape to it on the left hand side. You just need to mimick that on the left side case half.. as I look at my motor now I also remember my shift shaft being tight as well. But nothing 5 minutes if 1000 grit sand paper didn't fix
