Title: LAEGER Stainless Tie Rods with Carbon Steel Tie Rod Ends - Service Bulletin
Post by: Langbolt on December 30, 2025, 04:21:34 PM
Public Service Announcement - CHECK your Rod Ends - It you have Stainless Steel Tie Rods - and Carbon Steel Rod Ends.....Be sure to remove them and check the Threads.....GALVANIC CORROSION is the reaction between these too metals causing corrosion and the threads on the Carbon Steel Rod Ends to corrode. LUCKILLY I was pulling in my driveway after an intense ride and the Tie-rod let go when hit the brakes! This could have been FATAL if I was 6th gear wide open and it let go!!!! Just wanted to put it out there for any other Laeger owners. 😉

Could have been a bad situation.  Glad nothing happened injury wise.

I will add that it’s good practice to do a once over every chance anyone gets.  It’s easier said then done and I’m guilty of not doing it.  Not anymore in my case….i will check after every ride.

So glad you didn't get hurt. Consider yourself lucky or blessed. Breaking front end parts can end badly even at slower speeds. A 350lb wheeler pile driving you into the earth rarely ends without injury.

Might be worth checking into different materials for the rods and/or ends. Possible to get the ends chrome or nickel plated?

Best regards

A non conductive anti-seize can help reduce or eliminate the galvanic corrosion.
