Title: amazed by 310
Post by: mea350r on August 18, 2013, 07:40:45 AM
I just bought another r and it has a ct 310 short rod FMF SST pipe 39mm keihin.  Now I have a ESR 310 long rod and  a ct 350 with rotax  PV also.  This ct 310 is ridiculous.  It runs way better than my other 310 and stays close in drag race with a ct 370 stroker.  Why does it run so good? Porting?  It runs on pump gas.  It doesn't have  PV. It isn't real great on bottom but when the powerb comes its over.  Just wondering

Porting, jetting, how new/worn out it is. Many things can change how well it runs.

Many disagree but I have a SST pipe and I actually like it. I know it's not the best pipe but when I hit the powerband it launches. It's a small range with crappy low end. Only other pipes I have used are the trx5 and PT race though. Both I like better but they don't hit like my SST. All this is on my stock bore, short rod with a 38mm AS.

I once put a 86 piston on my 87 motor and wow how it would sing/rev, like it was waiting on me to hit the throttle. I believe porting has much to do with it, but sometimes your cylinder/pipe combination just works sweet.

Its an awesome feeling when it comes together!  The bike is really nice.  It is sharp but the pipe is the only eyesore.  I can see now why the guy never changed it.  Not sure about what porting has been done.

Must be a high rpm cylinder port, like say a drag port & then low compression, so as your going through the rpms & the cylinder porting & pipe match up together, BAM, hang on for the ride. Running as good as you say & on pump gas, only way it could or can survive is with low compression & drag porting to have that surprise you'll get when it jumps on the pipe.
