Title: First TRX250R...........
Post by: scawn on August 18, 2013, 09:43:09 PM
Ok, so it's my second R, but my first TRX. My original R was a 1986 ATC250R back in 1987 when I was 15 and in high school. Those were the days. I wanted a TRX but we had been racing a 1985 350X and my parents got a great deal on the ATC so a TRX was out of the question. Here I am 26 years later, finally owning a 1986 TRX250R. It's not perfect but it hauls butt and smells just like they did so many years ago. I'll post some pics as I get more time. I've got some things I need to done this week on it. Just glad to be a part of the community.

Edit: the first 3 pics are from the guy I purchased it from. The last pic is me taking it out on Saturday at Pusheta Creek MX in Wapakoneta, OH.

I don't know who's more glad. Me, or my dad who's 60. I bought the TRX250R on Friday and had it at our shop until yesterday. My 2002 CR125 sold so I took the quad to my parents to drop it off and pick up the bike to take it to the buyer. As I unloaded the quad, my dad asked, "Does it run?". I knew immediately I was going to be keeping the tether switch with me. "Of course it does", I said. I pushed it into the garage because I knew if he heard it, he would have been on it immediately. I was gone about 4 hours delivering the CR125 but about 3.5 hours into my trip I got a phone call from my dad, complaining about where the tether switch was. I just laughed and told him I was almost back and we'd ride it.

He was only on it for 10 minutes but I think he found his fountain of youth for that short amount of time. Of course after he got off of it he remembered how old he was and started complaining about his back. My mom just kept her eyes closed every time he went ripping passed the garage and down the back lane. He asked me what all I wanted to do to it and I said "Not much, just a few odds and ends". He laughed and said, "Yea right. Hell won't have it until you have that looking like a showroom bike again". I smirked and said, "probably". It's such a great feeling owning this thing.  Seeing how much fun my dad and I had yesterday at 41 and 60 years old was worth the money I paid for it. I just know there are plenty more days to come.

It's awesome how a little 2 stroke smoke and snappy power makes people of any age get that feeling, nothing beats it! Ill still be trying to ride my R until I don't know where I am anymore:glee:

Unfortunately I don't have the ATC250R anymore. My parents sold it back in 1990 right after I graduated and moved out. We saw one on ebay last year and were 99% sure it was the one we used to own. I desperately wanted to buy it, but after contacting the seller there were too many things missing to really get into it. So for now it's just the 86 TRX250R. However, after waiting all these years I am more than thrilled and it's more than enough to keep me excited every time I start it up.

No we didn't. I ran some organized online tournaments for THQ and I don't want to bad mouth them too much, but let's just say the corporate side let the $$$ cloud reality. They kept pushing the developers into doing things they didn't want to do, the game had a lot of bugs (some of which still haven't been fixed) and it all went bad. The developement studio ended up getting closed and THQ is pretty much bankrupt. Luckily, a company from Austria called Nordic Games bought the entire series from an auction and is attempting to save it. I can't discuss it too much due to contract but there is a lot of promise with both MX vs ATV Reflex and Alive being fixed, as well as the series continuing forward. I still have the model and will continue it if there is any chance of it getting into a game. I had gotten written permission from both Duncan Racing and Nac's to use their decals on the model in the game, and they both sent me a lot of hi-res images to assist in making skins. They are very friendly people at both companies.

Congrats on the purchase. There truly is no other quad like a 250R
