Title: Puma tranny?
Post by: ktm250r on August 18, 2013, 09:46:07 PM
I'm gonna start buying parts to build a puma engine soon for my ktm 2stroke conversion, looking for some input on what kind of tranny I should run, it's gonna be mostly for dune/trails/wot dirt roads and hopefully be built by led and in the 80 hp range maybe higher in the future, what do you guys think I should go with? Oem cyroed and backcut, Oem/Yukon cyroed and backcut, or wait for the billet Oem if it does ever happen?

Oem cyroed and backcut. Only need like 2nd gear back cut. If you are getting 100 HP then you might want to get billet. Tranny's are only $200. You can get 2 sets for the price of Yukons. They really aren't any better than OEM.

Thanks for the reply, so back cutting the other gears are not beneficial at all?

Just the gears you use the most. Usually 2nd if you start in that gear when racing. Otherwise 1st and 2nd I believe. Most time damage occurs is the slip between first and second.
