Yep, it's for reasons like this that I don't run just any ol oil off the shelf in my premix or my trans oil. A lubricant for either location has a multitude or jobs to do, not just one. While the formulation of oils are proprietary and something consumers are not privy to, consumers do have access to the technical properties of the oils they use such as: Viscosity Index, Flash point, pour point, kinematic viscosity, (Noak volatility, four ball wear test, total base number ((for trans oil)) This helps you see some of the differences in various oil formulations and brands. My motto: if you use a product, you should know why you are using it, not just cause someone told you to.
