Yes a wide power band that allows you to run one gear around the whole track is always faster unless you are running a 1/2mile or mile track.  What engine/cylinders are you running?  What is the lowest RPM you typically see in the corners?  What RPM do you typically see at the end of the straight-away?

I have raced on the Ice, on the pavement at Laguna Seca, and numerous TT/Flat tracks in our area and out of state....In all honesty I cannot tell you what the RPM's are....Since 1985 I have never ran a tach.....I can tell you that the Rpm's depend on the configuration of the track and what gears and tires I choose to run....And at some tracks that is always changing....My setup is the older ESR350 PV cylinder with a 5.5mm crank...I also run a TRX11 CM pipe with a 01 CR250 ign.....Carb is a 41.5.....I have never had a problem with the power valve . I'm not sure if that is because the quad is only used to race flat track and TT.......I got into this with BDT about the power valve .  Before BDT even existed when I built my quad  I built and almost identical quad  for my son......My son has been racing quads since he was 4 and is now 27...I mention this because he is a very consistent rider.....His Quad although set up with a 350 cylinder did NOT have a powervalve cylinder.....We ran both quads with him as the rider on a TT track for timed runs and time after time the Powervalve quad had the better lap times....All I know is what works for us and evidently it works as both my son and myself have the race wins to back it up......

i dont think the question is if powervalves work. honda, ktm, kawi, suzuki, yami doesnt use them just for looks. the question is how good do they work. some designs im sure work better than others
to much power is almost enough
