Well that was a fun and interesting race to say the least. Weather was crazy! Started out at 100+ temps, sunny and no breeze and with about 3 laps complete, the bottom fell out. Temps dropped 20+ degrees, wind whipped up and the sky opened up and it started to pour! It was so hard to stay cool before the race and after it was over, I sat inside my truck for 15 minutes with the heater on full blast trying to get some warmth back in my bones. Didn't see that one coming. lol
So I grabbed 2nd on the holeshot and ended up 2nd in my class. The 250R did amazing but I'm still thinking she needs some more power. I got into a drag race about 5 laps in after the holeshot with a built LTR450 and he edged me out. Course it was pretty greasy out by then but I still can't help but think I need more power.
:biggrin-new:
I hope you enjoy the vid of the first lap and as always, if you're in the area, please stop in for a race. I'd be more than happy to show you around!

I've got an ESR310PV high comp in it right now. It does well against modified 450's but this guys LTR has a big bore, high comp, Yoshi, cherry bomb ported and cam'd motor. He's got a few $$$ in his build. His was hooking up a lot better than mine when the rain started too. I had too much air in the tires and was sliding all over the place. My bad. That's what I get for not checking the radar but weather man that morning said the day was to be +100 with a 10% chance of rain so I set up for a very dry, hard pack track and it was initially.

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. Sounds like you did really well. Even if you had a bigger motor, the edge would still go to the 4 stroke in muddy or wet conditions. That's just the nature of the two beasts. Less air pressure would definitely help in that case though. So would a flywheel weight. Good job sir!

Big bores make more torque, and have more inertia. You can lug them a gear high and roll out of the corners. They become like a 4 stroke. Takes a bit more finesse than riding a big 4 stroke, but you would be amazed at the difference of how well a big bore runs when properly setup.

I have a big bore, and while I agree with some of what you said, the big bore is still lacking against a 4 stroke in wet and muddy conditions. I just raced a super muddy race this weekend, and it was very evident that the 4 strokes were having a much easier time getting through the mud. Just my observation.

I've been eyeing the 350 bb for some time and I think after this season I'm going to have to pull the trigger on it. I've done about all I can to the 310 to squeeze power out of it and it's probably just time to bite the bullet and move up to a 350.

Sounds like you are going down the progression path that I did. I will say this just so you can keep it in mind. The 350 will have quite a bit more power, or even consider a 363 stroker. Just keep in mind that it will guzzle the fuel in comparison to the 310. My 363 is a super thirsty girl. You will also potentially need a big bore style pipe to go along with it. Not discouraging you, just a few things to consider as you move forward.
