Champion beadlock mod
« on: December 25, 2020, 10:17:14 PM »
I want to Mod this inner reinforcement ring both to lighten it up and improve the aesthetics. What do you guys think Is the best way to do it?  Design?  I’m going to dismount the tire and I have access to a lathe and mill.

Maybe put them in a lathe & cut them back until the holes are gone than cut a saw tooth pattern on the remaining ring? Or maybe use a small hole saw to make a series of half round holes around it to make it look like a reverse sprocket?

I was considering cutting it down so the existing holes are gone.

Manual or CNC mill?  I’d clamp the wheel on a rotary table and then mill some slots...just like the currently available beadlock rings.

If you have a CNC mill you can get creative on the type of pockets you can mill.

To turn the ID of the wheel on a lathe you can use an old axle as an arbor (with a hub).  Cut the old axle at the bearing surface.  Chuck it up in the the lathe with a center in the tail stock.  Turn the OD to get the taper out of it.  Now you have a good round diameter to chuck up on (Shorten it up some though).

Manual.  I was thinking slots would look cool.  We have an experienced Machinist at work but I don’t know how much time he is willing to spend.  I think we have a radius fixture.

If I wanted to make them really fancy I could probably send them to OMF.

I had some OMF rings on my rock crawler and they are very proud of them lol. Think they were a couple hundred bucks each but man were they strong and looked great. Seems their quad wheels are nearly as expensive as the Jeep wheels.

Shoot if you have a mill then your possibilities are endless. Like an adult etch a sketch. Post up what you come up with. Sounds like a fun project

Three options.  Which looks best.  I’m thinking #1.  All the black area would be machined #1 would remove the most weight, still be plenty strong and have the most open area for sand to escape.

i like #1 but without the really big slot. Maybe make the slots like a long trapezium. /          \
