Shocks
« on: April 09, 2021, 04:37:13 PM »
Hi guys. Was thinking about buying some front shocks. A friend of mine has a set off a TRX 450r . Any idea what these are worth. I have contacted a shock builder and he can re-do them to zero preload for around 500, rebuild and re-valve with triple springs.

Used off the 450 or new take off?  If they are used I think the friend price is in order....free or a 12 pack.  :) New take off I’m out of the loop on what those would go for.

They pop up used from $150-250 but in my opinion to spend that plus the $500 to revalve I’d just look for a good set of premium used shocks

My buddy said he would sell them to me for $100, said they were taken off a new quad. Never used. I am thinking about either going with full flight +3’s or lone star +2’s for standard travel shocks. Any thoughts? I used to race some, but I got grandkids now. Lol . Trying to build something a little better than stock, to keep up with my son and his friends. Maybe if I am feeling lucky hit a table top or 2. Not banging out laps, mostly trails and a small jump or too.

I don’t know if I am sold on the full flight arms or not. Reading a lot of older post’s it’s not looking good. If I look at a set of used premium shocks, theirs probably a good chance those will need servicing too. I would guess if I buy a set with scored rods and need them replaced then I’ll be in the ball park of new. But then I could get a good set. Any one on here ride a set of 450 shocks? Lone star arms 550, shocks, triple rates springs set up for me 600. 1100 in on a decent front end? The eye to eye measurements can be somewhat confusing to me. I have been looking at sets of aftermarket used. I see 16 1/4” , 19”, some 20”. More on the searches for 450 than for 250, if these aftermarket shocks bolt up to 450r ‘s will they bolt up to a stock frame 250r. What’s the eye to eye measurements that separates sport a arms from long travel?

Stock length shocks are typically (16”-16.5”).  Long shocks are  typically 18.75 and longer.  Set up will determine correct shock length.

I currently have 450R shocks on my R with +3 arms. The 450 shocks I bought from a guy on craigslist for $125. They were rebuilt and set up for the sellers weight and for a 450R. They ended up working well for me for a few years out dune riding. In the end though I decided to try to find a better set. I was able to snag a full set of axis standard travel fronts and rear for $750 on Ebay. I am going to be sending them off to be set up for me.

Isn't Works still selling shocks? I have gone through several front end upgrades. I would say the biggest bang for the buck was going from stock to Works. I cannot stress how much more enjoyable riding is with good suspension. Power mods are fun, but you just get get beat up more if your suspension is wore.

Does anybody know if the 450 shocks will bolt up or will they need to be modified. I used to run burguard arms with TCS shocks. Set up for Intermediate MX racing and my weight. Best set up ever.  Anyone know if these people are still into shock building or in buisiness? I have googled it, keep getting a company in North Carolina popping up on my feed. I thought this company was in or near Cali. Also still waiting on motor parts to come in.
