Sealant on Head Studs?
« on: August 05, 2021, 05:20:50 PM »
ES2 CEO, are you guys using any sealant on the head studs? I fired mine up today for the first time, and it is definitely getting damp / seeping anti-freeze as one of the head studs. After it cooled on the first head cycle, I check torque again, and it are spot on. Each one of the studs has an alumium washer on it, without any sealant, wondering if I should removed them one at a time and add some sealant. Thoughts??

I use copper washers and proper torque to seal mine,  but I know some people use hondabond on the washer. You can use permatex ultra grey for a little less money.

Copper washers with acorn nuts. Shouldn't need any sealant

Mine have leaked with copper washers on oem heads & cool heads so now I usually put hondabond on the washers even though it seems very redundant. After break in rides & checking torque a few times the copper washers still didn't seal on the engine I just finished using the max torque value so this time instead of taking them off & using sealant I just added an extra 4Nm of torque to them. Put an hour of run time on it afterward & haven't seen any leaks yet.
