$200 full rear brake rebuild
« on: December 09, 2021, 04:18:40 PM »
I'm working on rebuilding both ends of brakes for my R & wanted to share what I found on current costs for the parts if you do it yourself. Fortunately the caliper I have still has usable pistons & the floater pin is still in good shape which is no longer available from Honda. Other than that the rest of the parts are readily available & for everything but the rebuild kits & line I went with all oem parts. The total cost was just over $208 but if I would have bought the rear EBC pads off ebay instead of at the Honda shop I could have saved another $10-$15 putting the cost under $200 & thats for completely fresh rear brakes from the MC to the caliper. Not bad considering what the conversion kits & other alternatives cost. The prices on the yellow paper are parts I got from ebay. For the rear MC resi rather than spend $35 on a new oem from Honda I straightened out one that I had using a heat gun:

this would probably be a good idea for me to do cause im still running a jerry rigged $15 450r MC and the rest haven't been redone ever. thing is all go no stop lol. but its cool to see that i could rebuild my whole stock setup for fairly cheap.

Got everything mounted & bled & a week later it still has the same pedal pressure so the budget rebuild was successful. Out of the 3 mc reservoir hoses I had 2 tore when I tried removing them & one I had to cut off so thanks to Loren for the resi hose because I wouldn't have working brakes without it! :
