2001 cr250r ignition swap question
« on: June 07, 2022, 09:00:06 AM »
Good morning all.  I picked up a complete 2001 cr igntion for my R, and an adapter plate from BDT.  I think I would have preferred the ESR unit, but of course, not available.  Has anyone used the BDT adapter, that could provide me with any pointers on installing this system?  Is there a stock baseline timing mark to use?  I haven't opened the side cover yet, just trying to gather info.
Thanks!
Jay

No, but I did get a reply from them with instructions.  Should be straight forward, but wanted clarification before I did it.  Other than high prices, why does everyone have a negative view on BDT?  Just curious.  Seems to be the only company with any stock lately.

how did you find this site?  you sure you dont want to be on .net and hang out with Maatus?  LOL

carlos is a crook and got started on the forums acting like he was a customer of BDT instead of the shop owner promoting his business.  He'll tell you need a new crank and piston, then put your old parts in someone elses motor build.
he has numerous alts to this day still doing that crap - pretending to be his customer
he claims stuff is new old stock, when its really used and he cleaned it up/restored it

I would also like to add that this site was created for the 250R enthusiasts that were tired of all the bs drama Carla created on .net.

this is at least forum #2 and maybe even fourm #3 to try to get away from Carlos.  it all started on exriders/atvriders.com, trx250r section.  I thought there was another site before we went to .net, but I may be misremembering

Interesting, and comments noted.  I don't do drama on forums, and typically don't engage.  Just way too old for that garbage.  Either way, I appreciate the heads up.

I too am to old to engage.  The certain guy you mention (I won’t repeat the the name) is a snake oil salesman.  Shady from the beginning.  There’s a reason why his “sponsored” riders left his “team”.  More reasons why everyone in the R game (builders, producers of parts and common riders ) won’t deal with him.  Hell, he “bought” a cheerleader following by giving away parts (know as nut swingers).  His motor builder left (RIP Rob).

Everything  said person sells is available elsewhere.  Just ask. Parts are available everywhere.  Once again just ask.

Yes I’m a moderator here and my opinion may be bias to some…feel free to search on the shady practices from the said company.  I’m always available to talk in private if you like to get you up to speed on the “car sales man”.  No offense to car salesman.

With that said….sorry for the long response.  To answer your question start with the plate lined up. I think that’s where mine is at.  I’ll pull the cover off and verify and report back.

Joe

LMAO.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel there is some kind of point attempted to be made here.  I'm sure I can do some digging and find some of the posts across the net.

All that being said, where is the best place to source things like billet parts?  I don't like to wait a month or 3 due to production issues or backordered items.  ESR, LED etc always seem to have waits and production dates.  I have yet to see any changes on ESR's site with in stock, or even a hard production date on anything.

just about everything billet you can think of!

now, in my opinion the CR igntion swap is a thing of the past.  DRW is about ready to relase the zeel ignitions again.  better power, lower cost, and you can run lights

I also have a bdt plate and there’s 2 sets of holes and you’ll use the 01 obviously. I was told to turn the stator as far counter clockwise as possible to start. I ran it a little and the timing mark on the plug wasn’t quite right so I removed the little plate so I could retard it a tad more. That put the heat mark right on the bend of the plug strap.
