Bunk216's 89' 250r Lonestar LED build
« on: August 21, 2022, 05:57:03 PM »
Hey guys. Been lurking on the site for a while now. Las Vegas local sand rat.  Spend most of my time on quick trips to Amargosa and holiday weekends in Dumont.  Try to get up to Saint Anthony yearly for a guys trip. Finally had the opportunity to pick and start a longtime dream build. Had a buddy back in high school who had a fully built 86 he raced while I mostly rode dirt bikes.  Did the whole sxs things the last few years, built x3 etc.  Sold it, back to dirt bikes and now quads.  Always wanted one, fast forward 20+ years and here we are.

Tracked down a 89 up in Oregon a few months ago. It had been in a wreck, but mostly focused on it for the newer engine build. I knew I was going to replace alot of stuff.  After a few calls to Arlen at LED I worked a deal with the guy and made a fun road trip.

Fast forward alot of parts later, alot of waiting on some parts, and finally last week got the chassis swapped over. Now just waiting on some more stuff, never ending story. It's been a whole lot of fun and brings back alot of old memories. Hoping to have it done by the end of September. Enough backstory... onto the goods.

Back in April.... 30 hrs and 1800 miles round trip later and I'm officially the proud owner of a 89 TRX250r.  Chassis was rough shape even though it looks clean.  Many bent parts and a few cracks.  Motor was a complete new build in late 18/19 by LED.  Little annoyed with the seller on some things as he didn't disclose some stuff.  Joys of buying old stuff.

Over the next few weeks parts started rolling in.  Frame was 16 weeks out so threw everything on as it was showing up.  Figured I could get a little riding in so why not.

Finally had her to a point where it was somewhat ridable beyond around the neighborhood, so finally go to take her in the sand.  Quick morning trip to Amargosa.  Motor ran really strong, suspension was crap which was expected but overall super super happy.  I was just happy to be back on one.  Havent ridden a 2 stroke in the sand since 2002.  Dang where has time gone.

Finally more goodies showing up.  Bunch of Fourwerx carbon, got the maier plastics on, elkas showed up, A-arms, seat foam and cover.  Ended up not diggin the color combo so I ordered another all black and carbon cover.  Have yet to install it.  Will have some brand new RTC shrouds and this red/black/carbon seat cover for sale at some point.

Onto cutting the plastics.  I personally am not a fan of the oem so dont hate on me.  Not mad at all on the outcome and only cut myself once.  Also the front sand tires finally showed up.  Skat is still on backorder on the rears.

Chassis and swingarm finally showed.  And of course the powder and peg setup wasnt as ordered.  They did however make it right and issued a credit so I could redo the powder and they are making me a custom peg.  Honda red was sent which looks great against the honda red plastics.  However I was going for a match with the Fighting red and it just didnt flow.  Got her redone and started on the swap.
