Too much clutch cable free play. Fix?

Dumb question, can the thrust bearing get worn out to the point that you can’t adjust the clutch free play? The 2 nuts by the cylinder are all the way on end of cable.   Lever adjuster is all the way out too.     I was hoping putting in an 89 update would fix it, but it already has one.   New cable.

Is this an all new clutch? If not could your frictions be warn? Do you have the correct cable? I consider the actuator to be the arm/shaft the cable connects to then the shaft goes through the case. That shaft has a flat milled/formed for the clutch rod to rest on. As time goes by and hours get put on your machine the corner of the flat gets rounded off. That then reduces the amount of travel.

I find  a lot of pressure plates that are worn almost all of the way through because the thrust bearing  is running against the pressure plate instead of the hardened washer.  (incorrect installation of parts)

Joe's talking about the arm the clutch cable attaches to. The pocket where the clutch push rod rides in the actuator arm could also be worn deeper adding to the lack of adjustability. It could also be that the push rod is worn & slightly shorter or a combination of all these things. Also the pressure plates are different thickness where the thrust washer rides on the updated 89 style compared to the other years of pressure plate.

The clutch lever looked in great shape, the pocket wasnt even discolored.  the lifter rod def had finish removed on both ends, didnt think about it getting worn down.  Hopefully previous owner wasnt foolish enough to use the old pressure plate when they put in the 89 update.  I didnt even think to check that. 

For now I added a second thrust washer and its a little better.  Was hoping to take it for a test ride, but its raining...

Seems to be an issue on all Rs that the clutch cable is towards the end of the cable adjustment on the clamp by the cylinder.
