Paint codes

Paint information.  Credit goes to my friend Mr. Bobby Fowler

These are exact match colors for all the color combinations for the 85-86 Atc250r and 86-89 Trx250r that I’ve had made and matched. All my target values are 1.2 on the 1-10 target scale. ppg, DuPont and nason will all be the same. I’ll attach picks of ea paint code and final product color. I had all paint codes made where Honda used paint on most everything back then. I also used all NOS parts to get these colors. Nothing old and beat up or sunburnt etc.

The 88-89 Red paint for the frame is Ford race Red.

For the 85-86 Atc250r and 86-87 Trx250r you need ha2 passion red. This color is available from either ppg or DuPont. You need to go to a local auto body shop that uses either said paints and tell them you need Honda ha2 passion red mixed. Their local rep has these colors in their paint match system. I used my nos 87 frame as a reference to have it made up then had it saved under Honda ha2 passion Red.

The 85-86 Atc250r and 86-87 a Arms, spindles and front and rear hubs and swingarm is General Motors 67u goldish beige.

The silver for the 88-89 a Arms bumper etc is  Volkswagen 9957 diamond silver.

Gold rims anodize is Brite dyes gold E-N/ E-505430. ( this is the closest I’ve found. Mickey Dunlap has a guy who is spot on if you reach out to him he can give his information)

Olive drab with the addition of 10% black chromium for all steering stems, grab bars, both brake levers, handle bars 88-89 engine bolts etc etc.

I had Powder by the pound.com make an exact match to the 86 Atc250r and 86-87 Trx250r engine case grey and caliper body grey.

85 Atc250r engine black is 50% gloss black

88-89 Trx250r engine black is 40% gloss black (satin black)

Good luck with making those builds as perfect as you can.

This is timely. I just restored every single part on my 88, and an 89 is disassebmled. I think for the 89 I'm going to try my hand with automotive grade paint, so I've been looking for the 88-9 frame, and a-arms paint color. I've reached my end with PC.

An easy option for 86-7 engine/cyl is Duplicolor Storm Gray. It's a perfect match against a new OE part. Keep in mind that old parts will be faded at least somewhat, so not a great comparison.

One thing I'm not sure on... "Olive drab with the addition of 10% black chromium for all steering stems, grab bars, both brake levers, handle bars 88-89 engine bolts etc etc."
I think the handlebars, levers and grab bar, same as 88-9 spindles and engine cases were painted black. Rustoleum satin sheen from a spray can is a pretty good match to a new OE cases and is pretty durable. I use it for the other parts too. I've tried semi-gloss for teh bars and levers, but I don't think any of the painted, black parts were that glossy when new. If I'm wrong, I'm pretty confident the difference is subtle.

The rest mentioned I think were black zinc coated. For example, if you want the black JIS screws for the handlebar lever clamps (discotinued by Honda), you can go here and get some in black zinc, and it will resemble that greenish black on the stem, etc: https://www.japanmotonuts.com/product-page/jis-screw-countersunk-oval-head-1
