Suspension and Chassis / Restored or ????
« on: December 17, 2020, 05:35:10 PM »
Soooo.....should dings and dents in the bottom of a-arms be filled(welded) and ground or left alone before powder? I wouldn’t want anyone to think I was covering up history.

Is anyone using one of these? Just wondering if it’s fragile or not. Obviously you’d run a guard

Hybrid 250R / YTMAN’S 650

WARNING: Long Story
I built this quad a hunnert years ago. It’s been apart for a long long time. It’s still apart but I finally got to address a huge problem. And since I have the welder out I’m fixing and changing what was already a pretty bitchen ride. When I built this I was racing desert on a 250r. I always ran 22” tire to get up out of the rocks so there was never enough power and I never wanted to build a big little two stroke motor and I kind of wanted a 4 stroke. First I built a 350X and put that in a R. Not fast enough. Honda then came out with the 400ex....shine. Me no likee. Dirt Wheels mag built a XR500 quad that was pretty awesome but they already had a XR600 two wheeler so that got me going. Plus I had one. I emptied out the motor and sent it off to Lonestar. They built a frame around it that would use 250R components. Unfortunately kickstarting a long stroke 4 poker takes a long kick and the kicker hit the footpeg before finishing the stroke. After trying unsuccessfully to fabricate a peg mount that would let the kicker get a full stroke I gave up. Plus Lonestar had an idea on how to mount the back brake pedal coming from the front, like an ATK, that I wasn’t fond of. I picked up a 650L electric start motor and away we go. Lots of problems solved and new ones to be addressed. The motor mounts were just strong enough to hold the motor without starting it. Broken, broken, broken. I was so busy adding metal that I never even got to powdercoat it. The swingarm was trying to leave the frame too. That’s when I decided to tear it apart and do a major. The swingarm pivot has to be tied to the motor like every bike since the 90s. Well that was a long time ago but everything is here to resurrect her once I get the rest of the nagging things rectified.(airbox& intake) plus it’s fun. Maybe after she’s back together and shaken down I’ll even be able to make her pretty. Now I have to figure out how to post pics.

Suspension and Chassis / Early Roll Brothers Seals
« on: July 20, 2016, 07:31:42 PM »
Does anyone know what seals were used on these early Roll Brothers A-arms?
I emailed them awhile ago but got no response. I'll try calling eventually. I'm in no hurry.
The bushings are still good(a hunk of plastic) I just tweaked the seals.

The Mad Scientist / Swingarm Fixture
« on: October 10, 2015, 06:37:35 PM »
I had to make a fixture so I can fix a swingarm I tried to modify. I thought I could just cut the center out of a 88/89 and make a 86/87. Unfortunately there were complications. I used a stock 89 arm to get the dimensions right.

Is anyone looking for one of these? Cover only.  It's in great shape.  Hardly scratched.   $50.00 + shipping. I have a bunch more pictures of all the areas prone to damage if anyone is interested. This is a standard height cover.
There was some confusion so I reworded this post

Carburetor, Intake, and Exhaust / Aluminum Airbox Mounts
« on: September 21, 2014, 09:28:40 PM »
I ripped this idea off from Troybilt. I saw that he used brake line clamps to mount the front of his airbox. I didn't see how they were mounted to the box though. The problem is the frame rails aren't perpendicular to the front of the box so I couldn't bolt them directly to the box. I got some Alba clamps that have a 1"hole and use rubber to size down to 3/4". I got some 3/8" diam rod and welded it to the airbox sticking out parallel with the frame rails. I had to drill out the small hole in the clamps. Now the front of the box is rubber mounted. The rear mount has always been rubber. I hope it holds. The crappy little clamps I had on there broke every time.
I'll let you know if it works

Lounge / Ebay Pollution
« on: July 28, 2014, 08:23:34 PM »
Can someone refresh my memory? How do you delete a seller from your ebay search? All I want to do is look at trx250r swingarms. To do that I have to look at every single sprocket combination for every different length swingarm in every color of chain known to man for the 250r. There's another guy that puts "engine" in everything he sells for the "r". Grips, gloves, rubbers.....everything. please help.......

Carburetor, Intake, and Exhaust / Pipe shape Diff
« on: April 09, 2014, 08:14:51 PM »
In theory.....what should the difference be in the performance of these two pipes? Both came on used bikes that I have purchased and don't remember ever running. I think one is a PT and the other (based on internet info) is a Trinity. The PT is fatter with smooth transitions and the Trinity ramps up quick and squeezes back down just as quickly.
This is merely conversation as I am many miles and months away from home and these pipes.I just like two stroke stuff
