Wiring harness - Request for 3 prototype testers I'm looking to begin production of a reproduction wiring harness as part of a broader restoration effort branded All250R "R2".
I will provide 3 free harnesses to testers for feedback that can commit to the following requirements:

Requirements from you:
1) The harness is mounted and all electrical functions tested while riding within 10 days of receipt.
2) A photo is taken of the installed harness and emailed with your thoughts on quality, suggestions, and any issues.
3) All 3 will either be 88 or 89 style. Your stator can be converted with OE parts to an 89 for free.
4) Choose between red/black or all black.
5) The harness is yours to keep. It is branded, "All250R R2", with prototype serial number and should remain afixed in case you request support in the future.

Main quality features:
1) All precision parts are OE or OEM, Japan or US, (not fake china etc). This helps ensure that dimensions, tolerances, terminal plating are within OE/OEM specification and quality assurance standards.
2) All lengths and fitment within 2mm of OE harness.
3) Overall quality exceeds the OE Honda harness.

Manufacturer:
All connector housings: OE
All connector pins, coil/flag terminals, and bullets: OE or OEM
Ring terminal: made in Japan
Bullet and flag terminal boots (sealed black): OE
Bullet boots taillight (sealed clear): made in Japan
Wire: made in US
Heatshink: OEM made in Japan
Black connector boot: made in Taiwan, the only reproduction part

Wire quality:
Wires have more copper than OE particularly in ignition and lighting circuits
Wiring insulator is cross linked polyethelene, more durable than OE insulation

Other quality:
No solder. All terminals are crimped like OE
All electrical joints are sealed after crimping.

note:
OE: Original Equipment - the same part that came from Honda
OEM: OE Manufacturer - not the same part that came from Honda, but makes other OE parts.

Re: how to paint cylinder
i checked and have an oversized radiator with bigger hoses, moving a lot more coolant than stock wich should cool everything alot better. and this thing will be babied it will be a sand princess. i mainly do jumps and sand trails. actually im pretty sure arlan told me to powder coat the cases. so i think im just going to powdercoat. plus its pretty easy for me to powder coat the cylinder because i do it all in my shop.
One of the hardest things growing up is knowing when you're getting good advice. I ruined my first set of cases after powder coating. Not too many hours later, two of my transmission bearings were loose in the bore. it's anecdotal, but I have no other known reason that's as likely to account for the widening bore holes. The cases are now my mock set for scribing port timing... Jerry Hall consumes and creates scientific data and has a deep physics background. You should take his advice. It's just not worth the risk. Rustoleum satin black is a really close match to OE black. Duplicolor Storm Gray for 86-7.

The size of your hoses probably don't matter so is not a reason to thik you can afford added heat retention. The tightest restriction in the coolant system is going to be the rate of flow, at best. You can attach your water pump to a drinking straw, then into a sewer pipe back to your water pump, It's only going to flow as much as the drinking straw allows, not the sewer pipe. I grew up in Glamis. Sand is one of the highest drag, engine heating surfaces you can ride on.

If you're a hands on guy and have a bead blaster, do the cylinder and head with glass beads. It will shine up the aluminum without reducing emissivity too badly. Take good advice. People don't like to keep seing it wasted. They stop giving it for free or reserve it for a different population.

Re: Tool Box - OEM 88-89 vs 400ex Cedar does have a nice scent sometimes... make an R like a viking war ship.
I shouldn't post this on a forum, but some years of TRX250 have the same toolbox. You can sometimes find a deal from someone who doesn't know it fits the 250R as well. Here's one with a damaged hole that could probably be heated and reformed for $25. toolbox

Re: Trouble disassembling/separating PT 89 Race pipe The strap wrench did it before I had to apply any heat. Thanks Joe. I applied some pb blaster, though not sure how far I got it into the joint.

Let me know if anyone is interested in trading for a not-rusted trx9 pipe.

high temp powder coating tempered aluminum - don't do it A lonnng time ago I argued with a big dog turd against PCing engine cases.
I had my first engine cases PC'd. A couple seasons later, they lost the ability to hold several bearings. They are useful for mocking up engines now.
Here in an article with some data that I found researching cerakote temps.

Re: Clutch lifter
I’m surprised that the clutch update kit hasn’t been discontinued.

Joe

I know! eh! And you can still get the inner hub too!!!!

They just discontinued the BASKET which makes NO SENSE!!

If they saw what the prices for parts are going for these days ya think they re-produce some items and get in on the $$$

HONDA USA needs to havea zoom meeting with HONDA JAPAN. ;) lol

I wonder if Honda Japan knows how meaningful these brilliant creations of theirs still are to people.

Sadly even if they do, Honda can't return to their glory days. The corp seems to be aligned with the global power structure we're starting to be more aware of.  ...that wants us to believe that in our hands, we will kill off the planet, so they will save it by having us eat crickets and live in high rise apartments that we rent, if we survive, Honda will submissively be there to sell electric motors to who's left.

Re: Intake boot
Hey Joe :) Great find!

They offer the '86 TRX Intake boot too!

https://qvmx.net/product/honda-trx25r-86-87-airbox-boot/

I remember Bill. I worked with him to produce the first version of that 86 boot. The prototype polyurethane wasn't very flexible if I remebmer right, so using it with a larger carb ws going to take another version.
From that pic, it looks like he's extended the length a litlte too maybe.
