It has a regular head gasket.  No o-rings. I can pull the studs and have the flatness checked.

I am reading all of this and am a little confused now.  I just purchased a 1987 cylinder that has a 295 sleeve in it.  It appears someone has attempted some port work , not sure who.  My questions are:  1. Will my stock carb feed this ?  2.  Do I need a BB pipe or will my FMF fatty that I have be ok?  I will be running this next year in an XC series.   I will be coming off of a 450R that I have raced XC for years now, so, I want all the torque that I can get out of this.  Don't really have the $$ to buy a 310 kit.  Any comments or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Engine and Bottom End / CDI question
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:20:02 AM »
I have an 86 motor.  I recently purchased an 87 cylinder (295cc).  I know I need to switch cranks to match the 87 cylinder from the 86.  Question is about the electronics.  I have heard the 86 CDI has different timing curves than the 87-89.  will I need to switch to the 87 CDI also?

Did you buy the "rec" series or the "performance" arms?  My concern is the caster adjustments in the "performance" arms or the preset caster in the "rec" arms. Will it be correct when using the 04-05 spindles hubs from the 450R.  I have a set of the 04-05 hubs/spindles and am wanting to use them on the 250R.  Just don't wanna cause more issues than benefits.

Suspension and Chassis / Should I swap front ends?
« on: October 09, 2014, 12:58:35 PM »
I want to use the 04-05 spindle/hub upgrade on my 86R.  I am looking for performance gains as I race XC.  Is this a gain or no?  I also want to use the newer 450R brake calipers and rotors.  The 450R brake setup is so much better, in my opinion, than the 250R.  Lots of effort to pull the lever on the 250 and virtually no effort on the 450.  this is what is making me want to switch.  Any opinions?  Why arms would I use with the 450 spindles?

Is the 04-05 450R hub/spindle combo the hot ticket for the 250R?  I have a set and am wanting to use them to get the updated brakes.  Should these be used with stock a-arms or ????

Can someone measure your frame. Need the vertical and horizontal distances from the pivot to the upper shock mount and lower linkage mount on the frame. I don't have a torn down frame. I scanned the 450r swingarm I can lay this out and see what we we have. Calculate leverage ratios, shock lengths, etc..

I do know that the linkage mounting point to the frame for the 86 is different than the 87.  If you would like, I have an 86 frame, bare, and can take the measurements you want.  Maybe the 86, being different, is the one.....
