Suspension and Chassis / Re: 1985 atc250r broken shock reservoir mount

That 350x mount might work but I would prefer to have the reservoir in the stock location.

To remove the original reservoir mount I'm thinking I can either drill out each spot weld (this would leave visible holes in the frame), I can carefully grind out the bracket from the inside out or I can weld the existing mount back together.

Thanks for the help so far everyone.  The stock 1985 atc250r  reservoir mount looks to be spot welded to the frame in 6 locations.  Does anyone have any tips for removing the stock reservoir mount?

I did because I saw that he sells those mounts, he told me that he hasn't had those in Stock for at least a year and wasn't sure when he would make more.

I have a 1985 atc250r that I just noticed broke the front ear off the rear shock reservoir mount.  The rear ear has a small crack but is still attached.  Has anyone had this problem?  If so how did you fix it?

I have a stock 1985 atc250r that will start to rev up when the clutch is not engaged like an air leak but only when it is on the reserve fuel selector.  It will not rev up with the fuel selector in the on position.  Does anyone know what would cause this?  I've checked the petcock flow on reserve and it flows freely.

I'm definitely keeping the paul turner high rev pipe, that is the best bolt on pipe you can buy for an atc250r.  After doing more research it seems like the esr reliability is hit or miss which is a big deal to me.  I think I'm going to just setup a stock cylinder.  Also what gearing do you guys run?  I have stock gearing and I can't pull 5th or 6th up hill, I just scream in 4th but I feel I can get it into 5th gear if I change the gearing.

Yes I want the most power.  I already run 100 octane av gas but I can easily get vp110.  I'm not sure if 100 octane would be enough for the esr310 kit?  Basically my goal is to be able to beat piped banshees.  Right now they beat me by about 1 bike length.

Ya they do.  Whenever I go to their shop they always have trx250r's, banshee's and lt's there.  Also if I had the stock cylinder ported would it be worth it to have it setup for race gas?

How reliable are the esr 310 kits?  Like I said in my first post reliability is extremely important to me.

I have a paul turner high rev pipe on the bike.  Duncan does all the machine work for my bikes and they do excellent work and they sell the high rev so they should know what porting will suit it best.

I'm thinking about upgrading my 85 atc250r for this desert season because it's time to replace the piston and bore the cylinder.  Do you guys think I should have Duncan Racing port my stock cylinder, do the head mod and install a 39mm pwk carburetor or buy an esr 310 kit?  The esr setup is going to cost me about 300 dollars more than having my stock cylinder ported and setup.  I will be using this for drag racing up hills and just messing around.  Also reliability is my number one priority.

For anyone that has bought one of these kits how do they look?  I have an extra 85 atc250r motor I could use for this build.  What else would I need to use this kit on an 85 atc250r?

The bolt that goes through the bottom of the linkage and shock is bigger on the 85.

The sprocket hub is different and carrier is smaller OD on the 85. The brake stay and caliper mount is also different.

The carrier rebuild kit is the same as the 86 and up and the caliper is the same on all years.

Is the lower linkage bolt diameter bigger or is it longer?

Aren't the only differences between the 85 & 86 in the axle, carrier & brake caliper mount? The linkages should all use the same bushings & seals. I recently rebuilt the linkage on an 86 trx & kept all the old bushings & seals. I can take measurements or send you the used bushings & seals so you can compare them to yours.

Thanks for the offer, if no one knows where to get a kit I might have to measure them all out.

Can anyone show me where I can buy a linkage rebuild kit for a 1985 atc250r?  I can find a rebuild kit for 1986 and newer bikes but not for the 1985.
