I tried powdercoating stock arms before, didn't turn out too well! Removed boots and grease, but it looked like there was some plastic in the ball joint that melted out. Ball joints were loose after. Good luck!

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! I want a 250r to ride, and eventually a restored one as well for eye candy. So, the plastics, seat, and wheels are all coming off right away! I already have replacements for most, and some other 250r parts from a member of the site who also has an ebay store. Very happy with the parts! I'll be starting a build thread soon.

Welcome to the Forum Jay! :)

That's a mighty clean 250R you got there!!! Don't feel bad about the compression....they're usually 155 New! so it's only down 35 pounds....but yes due for a rebuild.

Neil will make you a great motor.

I'm surprised no one asked you about your XR650R Hyrid in the background of your pictures!.....I bet they will now! LOL

Cheers,
Thanks Langbolt! Almost thinking of running the 250r a bit now with the snow going away. The 650 is getting a workout for sure this weekend!

Well you must have done your research cause sending that cylinder to neil is a damn good decision!! Awesome guy to work with and even better work!!
Been lurking around different forums for a few years, seen a lot of posts of Neil's. Learned a lot! TONS of positive feedback, and liked the way he has always handled himself and treated others. That is more than I can say for other businesses/vendors I've seen come and go!

Hello everyone! New guy here from Manitoba, Canada.

Been into quads for quite a few years now. Finally snagged an '86 250r! Never had one before. Remember seeing one at the local dealer before I could drive and that's pretty much what started my passion! Well, after all these years I finally decided to take the plunge.
I drove 450 miles each way for her....

Seems to be a low hour machine. Pretty happy with it until I did a compression test! 120psi. My fault for forgetting my compression tester.
So.... time for an engine build! This will be primarily a woods bike, looking for lots of torque.  I've been in touch with C-leigh racing and pretty sure I'm going the ESR330 +4mm route, and some c-leigh dark magic! I will be starting a build thread soon.

Look forward to learnin' lots here!
