Sweet, I might do that.

What plastics should I replace them with? I think Maier is the only choice unless I can find a set of used ones.  I've read that the Maier plastics aren't that great, so... Suggestions?

Thanks for the detailed reply Robsessed86! I will be just fixing up a few things and doing tires and suspension before I do motor work, unless there's a few simple mods I can do.

It really needs new plastics and wheels/tires. I'm not a suspension expert but it may need that as well. I took some close ups of the plastics so you can see why it needs new ones.

What exact intake are you using? I'm fairly new to these, I know cars well and am mechanically inclined. Just learning the trx and quads in general right now.

I forgot to mention that the previous owner also put a new clutch in with a Hinson basket.

Thanks guys, the plastics are original, but they look better in the pic than they are, they look all cracked and have a couple cracks in the back. First thing I think needs attention is tires and suspension. Any suggestions?

I'll check all the bearings next, the chain is near new and has the perfect amount of slack right now.

Hi all,

I just picked up a new to me 87 TRX 250R, the guy I got it from has owned it since 1990 and he works on aircraft on the Air Force base here, so it's well taken care of.  I did a lot of research before choosing this quad, as I'm fairly new to quads.  I grew up with a couple dirt bikes, but never owned a quad.  It's got a minor port and polish, a DG pipe, and a K&N filter as far as mods.  The chain and sprockets are almost new, frame looks really clean with no cracks.. I'm excited!

Is there anything I should do now? I want to eventually redo all the plastics, graphics, mod the engine, suspension etc etc.. I don't know where to begin haha.

So here's a pic I got before coming inside, I just picked it up tonight and I'll get more pics later if you all want:
