Suspension and Chassis / WTF Lonestar - Manufacturing Mistake or Normal?
« on: February 11, 2017, 09:30:01 AM »
I haven't been able to make time to test fit the engine to the frame but did mock up the exhaust just to see how it would fit. I'm running a trx5 pipe by esr and its not a very fat pipe by comparison to other big bore pipes. I think I might get lucky and have it fit with only a minor amount of rubbing. In the worst case scenario I will cut the pegs cleanly off and make a billet insert plug from aluminum to make it look finished. I could use that as mount point for the pegs or turn a custom adapter for nerfs on my lathe.

The other news I have is that I found a very cheap set of pro-armor nerf bars (bottom picture) that are made for a yfz450r. They are stock 21.8" CTC and with a little stretching I was able to get them to 22.5". As long as there are no pipe fitment issues, these should mount up pretty nicely and look good as well. (top nerf is an Alba nerf at ~15" CTC for the 88-89 TRX250r)

Cant quite tell how low the pipe dips, but its going to be tight. No resolution offered from lonestar, they are saying the rear bolt hole for the footpegs is not the center of the propeg stud, thus the reason for my 23" measument being wrong and cant accept any responsibility. Bullshit.

That would make sense, mines on the complete other side of the frame rail. If you were to take a guess on the location of where my front stud is would it be in the way of the exhaust? Any pictures close up and level with the propeg stud? Thanks!

oldschoolr if you put your front peg stud 2" further forward  where mine is, does it look like it would clear the pipe? Haven't bolted my engine in, holding off till I figure it out with LSR. Rath said they'd make me custom bars, might just do that and eat the cost.

Ok, scratch that... more smoke and mirrors and stalling tactics. Suddenly its 4-6 weeks out before they can ship my nerfs... what is this being made in china or something and has to travel around the world? 21 inches back doesn't get even within questioning distance on the rear placement. I wish they would just step up to the plate and admit they made a mistake and fix this without digging a deeper hole.

Note to anyone thinking of going with Lonestar products, buy through a middleman or someone with some leverage who can back you up if things dont work out. They take your money and give you lip service otherwise.

Ended up buying the LSR nerfs designed for this chassis. Credit to LSR for trying to work this out and helping me out on the nerfs. They are 21" center to center and have been told by LSR they are built to fit the frame where they put the front peg stud. Interesting... 21" back puts the center of the rear peg half an inch forward of the front bolt for the foot peg on my frame.

Stay tuned for updates!

I'll have to test fit the pipe before going any further. Thought the 250r pipe hung down a little to the right of the frame rail.

I found some nice yfz450r nerfs with heel guards that look awesome and have a 22" spacing. Worst case they will work with a little tweaking.

Hontrx265r, have you seen a new LSR propeg frame with that spread recently?

Btw250, thats a chinese knock off "Acerbis" chain guide for. Pit bike I bought off Alibaba for 7$ and modified to fit on the 250r.

Need some help on this one. I ordered a Lonestar footpeg frame back in September '16. I also asked if they would be kind enough to put a front propeg mount on "in the standard 250r propeg location". Well this is what ended up showing up last week. The mount would need nerfs that are close to 23" ctc spacing. Is this correct? I have never in my life seen a 250r (lonestar or other) with a propeg stud in this spot. I am thinking the pipe wont even clear because that's where it tucks through the frame.

Like to hear your thoughts on this one as it doesn't look right to me but have been assured by the lead sales guy that they put it in the right spot. If it is correct, who makes a 23" propeg nerf?

Guys- appreciate all the input. Good to hear a variety of perspectives. I'll call today just to confirm with Eddie. I guess that would have made sense from the get go.

The motor is a pretty mild build, im not drag racing this, just looking for good reliable hp that keeps up with my modded 450r.

Specs:
ESR 330PV - (bore: 75.5mm, stroke:76mm, disp: 340cc)
Hotrods +4mm Long Rod
TRX9 Porting
ESR Cases +.210 height

Engine and Bottom End / Case Clearance on +4mm Stroker Crank?

I did that first by installing the crank separate in both case halves, using the stock piston and cylinder as a guide. But for some reason I am second guessing myself. Once the crank was fully installed, it just looks like less clearance.

I put masking tape over all bearings when grinding, ran the shop vacuum and then blew out the cases out afterwards.

Engine and Bottom End / Case Clearance on +4mm Stroker Crank?

Hi,

Does anyone know how much rod to case clearance is considered "safe" for the swing of the rod as it enters the cases? I got one of the +4mm Hotrods stroker cranks that wasn't fully machined around the big end. There is one high spot at the base of the beam that protrudes outwards and makes me a bit nervous. Right now with the rod centered in the bore in the 10 o'clock crank position (from flywheel side), I have around .040", as the rod tips forward 30 degrees, it can touch the cases, only in one area. The last thing I want is the engine to clearance itself while running.

This was before I did my second pass of clearancing - I ground the cases back to beyond where the sharpie marker is.

The rear of the case has plenty of room for some reason.

Front of the cases with rod tipped to center of bore.

Could be a disconnect between the sales guy and the engineering guy. He asked what year engine/swingarm I was planning to use. I will clarify today when I call back.

15
When I spoke to them they offered me the option of either of the two styles. It would appear that the 86 swingarm and mount would work on an 88 frame but not the other way around. Just for point of discussion it might be nice to know still which design is better and why.
