Engine and Bottom End / Port work with oem exhaust
« on: June 09, 2016, 04:06:05 PM »
Thanks for that write up Jerry.  That is pretty much my exact thinking, but I was looking to see what others would say.

She isn't looking to hop onto the 250r and it be just like the 400ex.  She actually hasn't complained about it at all.  I was just thinking of doing some tinkering on it when I rebuild the engine to get some more power out of it, but keep the stock look.  And by more power I mean more in the low-mid range because I know she could care less about top end power.

I have an extra stock cylinder laying on the bench to play with, so if I didnt like the results of some porting it wouldnt be a huge loss.

Engine and Bottom End / Port work with oem exhaust

This may be a bit of an odd question but im going for it anyway.  I have a completely stock 89' bike that is going to become my wifes dune bike.  I plan to restore the bike so it looks like it just rolled off of the factory floor (minus pricey oem plastic).  She is used to riding a 400ex so she likes the grunt of the 4 stroke.  How would some bottom end porting with a set of aftermarket reeds do with the factory exhaust?  Any experience I have with stock exhaust is on motorcross bikes, and they tend to do alright with some port work.  I was just wondering if anyone has done this before or has some insight to it.

Engine and Bottom End / Ignition

Always enjoy reading about Dave's ignition stuff.  Learned a lot right here.  Might have to look at the service honda setup for my sphynx.

How much more of a markup is the BDT setup compared to being straight from Service Honda?

Engine and Bottom End / Odd noise
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:32:38 AM »
Pull your counterbalancer out it needs a rebuild.  Neil @ c-leigh racing does it for $50.  Price includes bearing.  But when you do that replace the bearing on the stator side as well.    I think that is $12 from honda but I could be wrong.

All I can say is do not start your bike again.  I watched ball bearings shoot through the front cases when my buddies bike was making that same noise.

Engine and Bottom End / ESR CR ignition kit tips

Thinking of buying the complete CR ignition mod from ESR racing at the end of next week. Just wondering if you guys that have already made this mod could give me any hints on what to expect when installing it. Or any tips on what i need to do to get it installed right. Didnt know if it was a direct bolt on or if there was some things I might need to know before getting started. THX

Have you called and talked to them recently?  I went to order one about 3 weeks ago and I was told that the OEM cr250 cdi is discontinued by honda so they didnt have any complete kits.  And that I would have to find a used cdi to use on their setup.  Not a huge issue but could be a pain in the butt to find a good one.

Don't mean to steal your thread, but since the topic is started, does anyone know of a quality place o get gears polished or cryo'ed?

Just sent my tranny to Neil for inspection, cryo, back cut, and polish.  It is supposed to be a decent price and about a 3 week turn around time.  Ill post more when i get the tranny back.

I just bought an 86 trx70 for my 11 month old daughter.  Gonna start restroing it at the end of the month so she has a brand new bike by the time she is ready to start riding.

That sleeper atc is awesome.....quite interested in doing one like that.

Went on two weeks of leave and took a camping vacation, only to come back and realize that my dream of a new 250r forum had come true lol.  Nice to see all the guys are free to post without getting banned.  Has anyone sent Neil an invite? Im sure he would be glad to come over here.
