Carburetor, Intake, and Exhaust / Re: Jetting Baseline Help
« on: August 11, 2020, 11:59:09 AM »
My 310 is set up with a 38 airstriker carb. I have a 50 pilot, 185 main, dgh needle at the middle groove, air screw 1.5 turns out. Mine is dune ported by Hybrid Engineering and a +4 mil stroke.  I ride it only at the Oregon dunes

Copy..It looks like I need to fatten the bottom end up a bit. Side topic on the Oregon Dunes...I love the place. Being from So Cal, I ride a lot of Glamis but we alternate each summer between Oregon dunes and Idaho dunes. Way different riding then Glamis. But, this last July, the weather was horrible. Very cold and very windy. Does it get better in August?

300 PRO-X - 38A/S - 52 pilot, 185 main, DDJ needle (2nd from top).

300 PRO-X PV - 39PWK - 52 pilot, 180 main, DGH needle (2nd from top).

Sea level. Race gas C12 w/R50 @ 40:1.

Wow...your jetting is a lot richer then mine, except the needle. What's the difference between a DGH and DDJ needle? Have you ran a DGH needle in the 300 prox with 38 air stryker?

DGH needle 4th clip from top (when someone says 4th clip, do they mean from the top or bottom?)

Clip position = top is #1, bottom is #5.  Top is leanest, bottom is richest.  Note there is overlap on clip length too (for example a DGL in #4 is equal LENGTH to a DEL in #2), clip slots are 0.9mm apart and those two needles measurable length is 1.8mm different.

Half throttle "lag" - what do you mean?  Like it's zingy no power like a 125cc bike?  Give it more fuel (richen it up). Or it breaks up and sputters in that range? (lean it out).

Mid throttle is covered by needle length (clip) in earlier throttle openings and then needle taper.

All motors will be different - you're in the ballpark.

I don't even know if it would lag, but it would be going along and then somewhere around half throttle it would take off. Seems it was getting more fuel at that point. Almost like I blipped the throttle but I didn't, just gradually increasing speed. From what I'm reading, it needs to be richer on the bottom. I did not feel a sputter. I'm glad I'm in the ballpark.

Carburetor, Intake, and Exhaust / Jetting Baseline Help

Going to start tuning the carb but need a baseline to start with. I ran this in Oregon last month (which is sea level) and it seemed to lag through 1/2 throttle and then took off after that. Hard to tell with just a quarter turn twist throttle on it. What you say?
It's an 86, stock stroke, 310 pro x top end with a 38 pwk a/s running 110. The current set up is
DGH needle 4th clip from top (when someone says 4th clip, do they mean from the top or bottom?)
172 main
48 pilot

Thanks for the help.

I wish Fourwerx cite filled in the colors/designs as you choose them. That would make it a lot easier then them having to send a bunch of pics when you change things up.

Wanted / Re: Wanted: ESR 310 kit

I e-mailed ESR asking when they've get them in stock and haven't got reply yet. I saw the 310 CEO was in stock a couple of days ago also. Maybe I'll give them a call.

Engine and Bottom End / Re: What to Do, What to Do

E-mailed Arlan today. He thinks the 310 will be to small and I should go 350. We're going to do a ESR CEO 350 w/ Arlan's porting. He's going to machine the cases for me also. I don't think I can run the BDT Wurks exhaust so I'll have to sell it and buy either an LED 350G or ESR Trx5. The Trx 5 is $200 cheaper but I'm a fan of the raw look.

Eddie didn’t mention CEO?  Is the bdt wurks a small bore or big bore?  The pipe adds a considerable cost depending on what you go with.  Some have heat problems with the small stinger and 330cc and bigger.  So if you go something besides a trx5, you get into higher cost.  Like trx10 or LED 350G.

I’d like to try a 310 CEO but I’m working out some bugs on my ESR 330 PV.

He did. That was in one of the earlier e-mails. You think the 310 CEO would be ok on a stock crank? Is it more power then a regular 310? The BDT Wurks is a small bore. At least I think. The bike seller said he wanted to do a 269 or 310 kit so I imagine he wouldn't have gotten the bigger pipe if that was his plan. Is there any way for me to tell? I'd like to utilize this pipe to keep the overall price down on the build and I already have it. Doubt they're is much resale value in it.

I'm 6'2" and 285. I started on a 310 stock stroke. Rode that for a year. Then I took it to Hybrid Engineering and had him do some better porting and add a +4 crank. That 310 +4 was great! I had a lot of fun with it for 4 years. Now I decided that I want more. So back to Hybrid for a 391! Bought ESR's 81mm cylinder kit and a +4 crank. Now this thing has torque! I would suggest building an engine that will make you happy for a long time. Otherwise you will be building another one lol.
Loren

Lol. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Building a bike that I'm going to want to change after a year or two. We're about the same size and it sounds like you weren't a huge man of the 310 stock stroke but the 310 +4 was good enough. Then, you just got bored of it.

Bought my 86 20 miles from home.

Riding in OR and Idaho is 900 miles one way.
Mostly Glamis which is 200 miles one way.

I picked up an all stock 86 250r in January. I'd like to do some motor work but can't decide what. It's going to be a 100% duner. Mostly Glamis but take summer trips to Winchester Bay and St. Anthony dunes. I'm not a drag racer and not a hill shooter. I want a good all around bike with plenty of low end power to power up the hills with ease. I'm a big boy. 6'1, 250 pounds so that plays in to it.

The last 2-3 days, I've been emailing back and forth with ESR about what to do. He's suggested a few different set ups. A 310PV set up running race fuel and TRX7 porting. A 310PV running race fuel and TRX7 porting with a 4mm crank. He said with the last set up, I'm getting close to price on a 363, just need to have the cases bored. I actually haven't priced them out yet but I'm taking his word for it.

What do you suggest? Give the 310PV set up on the stock crank a try (the cheapest route)? Or do the 310PV set up with the 4mm crank? Or go big with the 363 since the price range is about the same point? Is there a considerable reliability difference between the 310 and 363? Any other set up you think would be beneficial? For what its worth, I intend to run a 38PWK, air box eliminator kit and the bike came with a BDT Wurks exhaust that was never mounted. (please don't hold it against me, it came w/ the bike)

Thanks for the time.
