Happy New Year, everyone! Love the pic... 40 years. Amazing.

Wanted / Re: Round/Aftermarket Frame Coil Mount

Actually, I just found this pic of what looks to be an ESR coil mount plate with a rubber strap to mount it to the frame. I already have the ESR OEM frame mount with plate, so I think I'll just try to find a rubber strap to mount it to the round frame.

Wanted / Round/Aftermarket Frame Coil Mount

I’m trying to track down some pieces for my Arens frame swap.

I’ll need a round tube/aftermarket frame coil mount; does anyone have one that they’d like to part with?

Thank you,
Wes

Do you mind if I ask what you paid?   I’m considering selling my Arens frame.  You can message me if you don’t want to broadcast it to the public.

$3,200 shipped. The shipping quote that he shared with me was ~$250.

Congratulations on the new purchase.  Hoping to see a build thread.

By chance have you heard anything from John Arens?  I have not.  It’s been years since Arens said he was going to build frames.

Joe

Thank you! I’ve been looking for a while. I’ve gotten sick of having to tear down and repair the cracks on my OEM frame. It turns out that racing is hard on stuff, especially 40 year old stuff.

I’ll try to do a build thread, if I can find the time. It’ll be more of a frame swap than a full rebuild, though.

John was the chairman for D-14 XC last year. I talked to him at a couple MOXC/D-14 combined races about making frames again, selfishly for me but in general as well. It’s the same old response. He’s got a few other projects to finish up and then he might be making some more. I was hoping to be able to play the racing series angle and have an in. I wouldn’t hold your breath.

John is the 2024 chairman for the D14 ATV XC series here in MI. I’ll be seeing him at future combined MOXC/D-14 races. I’ll try to ask him about the status of the frames when I see him next. I want one, too😊

Wanted / Afco Radiator & IMS 4 gal Dry Break Tank
« on: February 12, 2024, 07:54:04 PM »
Hi Guys,

I’m looking to do some upgrades before the upcoming race season.

Like the title says, I’m looking for an Afco radiator and an IMS 4 gal dry break tank setup.

Please let me know if you have either available.

Thanks,
Wes

Wow, those are beautiful! No surprise, though, being that they’re from Sonny.

Are they PC2000’s?

I haven’t measured either of them, nor do I know how to.

All I know is how my Zeel is currently configured: 50.0* static angle and 31.3* lobe length.

Are your base settings from DRW the same as mine?

Quick update - I was able to get confirmation from Dave that my maps are OPPOSITE of what was advertised. My Map 1 above is CR250 (21.3 deg timing) and my Map 2 is TRX250R (18.0 deg timing). If I wouldn’t have gotten the cable to check them, I would have never known. Especially since I was planning on wiring my Zeel to be Map 2 only to use the CR250 map. If you wired a map switch to toggle between the two maps you could probably tell a performance difference and which is which, but for anyone considering wiring their Zeel without a map switch I’d strongly suggest that you get a cable to confirm your maps first.

Engine and Bottom End / Re: Coolant Leaking Issues

I loosened up the rest of the mounts and got it closer. Then took a round file to take off the last little bit needed on the head to get the bolt through. It’s all back together now👍🏻

On an OEM frame use the headstay to tie in the upper frame rails

Joe
I’m still going to use the headstay, for the reason you mentioned, but was considering not using the bolt that goes through the head.

I’m happy to share that the Loctite 263 and MacDaddy Racing acorn nuts have done the trick! At least so far. I also added a thin film of high temp rtv on both sides of the washers as well. Thanks again for the help!

One thing I noticed when I reinstalled the headstay was how poorly the head bolt lined up. When I previously installed it, I must have put the head bolt in first before the frame bolts. I imagine that it was torquing the head/cylinder more than it should have by doing so. Instead of forcing it, I’m either going to leave the bolt out (seems a lot of people don’t run the headstay anyway) or open up the hole to allow clearance to easily get the bolt back in there. Thoughts?
