Carburetor, Intake, and Exhaust / Re: SmartCarb SC2 38mm

Sorry to hear about your hand.  As for the SC, I'm hoping my opinion doesn't change as I attempt to get it fully dialed in, but I'm also not running any wild motor combo as of yet.  I'll be sure to report back if and when I smoke a piston.  I will get some real ride time in about 2 weeks, and we will see what happens.

After being on the fence about what carb I wanted to run, the SC2 caught my attention.  After reading many reviews, with some positive, and some negative, I decided to give it a shot.  I gave them the details on my setup, as well as possible future planned mods.  8 weeks later, it finally arrived, and got installed.  The bike fired up on the first kick, and had a nice fat blubbery idle.  Even with it running pretty rich, it has great throttle response.  It's still really early, and I need to do a little tweaking to lean it a bit.  But I will say, out of the box, I'm seriously impressed on how close the "jetting" is.  On the east coast, my temps range from 0-100, and low humidity to 100%.  Im hoping it lives up to its name.  I used a dremel to remove a bit of material from the factory air boot, right at the top where the venturi is, to be sure it was exposed as required.  It was a tight fit with the boot, but a little heat, and some choice words got it done.  Im not saying this is the carb for you, but it seems to be working well for me so far.  Hopefully I can update this post in a few weeks when I get some real time to dial it in.

Im currently running the 89race with a csfx silencer.  This pipe is incredible with low end and mid range power and response, and is great in the woods.  The throttle response is instant,  but it signs off pretty early, and needs to be short shifted to get the most out of it on my setup.  I have heard the other models rev out a little better than the 89.

I purchased a split die, and it allowed me to rethread the crank pretty cleanly, shockingly.  There is only 1 thread that was a little suspect, but Im happy and confident.  The flywheel was torqued to spec.  I'll let you know if I'm building a new motor or not in a few days or so, after wrapping up a few things.  A small oil filter wrench held the flywheel nicely, and slipped right under the pickup to tighten the nut.  Im sending it.

I know I need a new crank, but can't do it right now.  I also have an old Jeep YJ that has taken a good chunk of my toy money this year.  Knowing the crank is done, is why I thought about the tack weld until I needed to do the bottom end again.  How a crank gets stripped when it only needs around 40 ft lbs is beyond me.  If it was done when the last topend was done, it was likely a ticking timebomb the way it was Im guessing.

I decided today was the day to put the CR ignition in.  There was some crunchy whitish stuff on the outside of the nut, and just figured it was dried thread locker of some sort.  This is what I found, after cleaning it with my wire wheel.  Half a thread an JB weld may have been holding it in place before.  Can this be retreaded enough to hold?  The red neck in me says rethread it,  snug it,  and tack the tip with my welder.  My die set does 1.5 and 1.75, so I will have to order that size.  What is the best type to use if Im buying one?  I see they have split types, carbon steel etc.

I have also read about the heat strap mark, but, Jerry does make a lot of sense.  Not all plugs are the same, and indeed, the mark should change (in my thoughts anyway) with a different temp plug carrying the heat away more efficiently.  But Im far from any type of 2 stroke tuner.  I know enough to keep myself away from the shop in general, but that ain't sayin' much...

I also have a bdt plate and there’s 2 sets of holes and you’ll use the 01 obviously. I was told to turn the stator as far counter clockwise as possible to start. I ran it a little and the timing mark on the plug wasn’t quite right so I removed the little plate so I could retard it a tad more. That put the heat mark right on the bend of the plug strap.

Thanks.  Good info.

LMAO.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel there is some kind of point attempted to be made here.  I'm sure I can do some digging and find some of the posts across the net.

All that being said, where is the best place to source things like billet parts?  I don't like to wait a month or 3 due to production issues or backordered items.  ESR, LED etc always seem to have waits and production dates.  I have yet to see any changes on ESR's site with in stock, or even a hard production date on anything.

Interesting, and comments noted.  I don't do drama on forums, and typically don't engage.  Just way too old for that garbage.  Either way, I appreciate the heads up.

No, but I did get a reply from them with instructions.  Should be straight forward, but wanted clarification before I did it.  Other than high prices, why does everyone have a negative view on BDT?  Just curious.  Seems to be the only company with any stock lately.

Good morning all.  I picked up a complete 2001 cr igntion for my R, and an adapter plate from BDT.  I think I would have preferred the ESR unit, but of course, not available.  Has anyone used the BDT adapter, that could provide me with any pointers on installing this system?  Is there a stock baseline timing mark to use?  I haven't opened the side cover yet, just trying to gather info.
Thanks!
Jay

Probably meant combined with the truck carrying it.
