ATC250R / studding tires for ice

I use 1/2" hex head slotted sheet metal screws on fast trekker fronts and turf tamer rears for winter riding. They don't penetrate into the tires interior if the tires are in decent shape and they hold up well if youre careful when crossing pavement or parking in the parking lot of any local watering holes. Run them in with a coredless drill but make the final tightening by hand or you can strip the rubber and youll be tossing studs. You'll probably still lose some on the rear so just keep an eye on them.

If you are going to mod your stock pegs and need another pair, I have some that I have no use for.

Engine and Bottom End / How reliable is a 250r engine???
« on: November 06, 2013, 12:12:04 PM »
My R is pinned year round and its as sure as the sun rises in the east. Like the ad use to say "Best On Earth". Whether its a push mower, an R, an atc or a generator; Hondas just wont quit!

Engine and Bottom End / Hinson clutch product question.

Didn't they use to take your old cover in as a core charge which significantly reduced the overall price?

Suspension and Chassis / opinions on which sprockets to buy
« on: October 24, 2013, 12:48:06 PM »
Ive ran Renthal, Sidewinder and Sunstar. Theyre all good but ive found Sunstar to be the best. Sidewinder is just a plain rip off. When all the Ti sprockets and chain came out I dropped coin on it. The chain and sprockets lasted no longer than my good ole Sunstars. Magic racing (in Michigan) usually has some good deals on the Sunstar chain and sprockets combo. Depending on how much you ride and maintain them, you will probably get a years out of them. Its a once a year thing just like your pivot bearings, axle bearings and whatnot.

Lots of good ideas mentioned here. Im thinking at 6'5", his boot size will be rather gigantic and will also benefit from an extended shifter. Probably something custom. I don't see a +1 being large enough. Peg and stem position (as mentioned) will do wonders!

MX / Gearing for specific mx track: what would you do?
« on: September 19, 2013, 11:17:43 AM »
Throw the 39 at it and practice. I wish I had a better view of this stepup. It kinda looks like a small dragonsback. Im wondering why everyone is bouncing over it. Ever try just clearing the whole mess and landing on the downside? what gear are you coming over the 'stepup' in with your current gearing? You may have to come into the corner before the stepup a little faster, carry more speed and get over that stepup smoother and quicker after you gear it to the 39. Either way it looks like a lot wasted effort and lap time beating and bouncing over the stepup . In other words, if your'e worried about clearing the double after the stepup, I would start looking at getting into the corner faster, carrying more speed out of it, getting over the step up cleaner, smoother and faster. The double don't look like a problem, its the obstacle just before it.

Grabbing fifth gear instead of staying in fourth and letting off the throttle and getting back into it is what you should do. Letting off the throttle isn't in the playbook! Also, as mentioned earlier, why not jump up two teeth on the rear and see how it feels? Cant hurt to try.
