Yeah, I live in Vegas. Juan over at Snail has done all my powder coating for the last 8 years. Always very happy with his work. His shop is about 5 minutes from my house.

Figure it is time for an update. Unfortunately, quad has pretty much sat. Has maybe been ridden three times since the last post in this thread. Runs great, just life has been getting in the way of riding. My plan was to race all the local night races on it over the summer, so about two months ago I decided to see how the light mount would fit on the LSR frame. (It was intended for a OEM frame.) I got it to fit, but it was a pain, had to use a ratchet strap to pull it into position. Also mounted up the white plastics, since the fronts are already cut for the light mount, and picked up a Quad Tech desert seat.

I already missed the first night race, and due to other stuff going on, doesn't look like I will make any of them. Still have to run the wiring, but figured I would at least get a couple of pics of the lights on the quad. Sorry for the lousy pics, to lazy to move stuff around to push it outside.

For Sale - Parts / Mandos desert build for sale
« on: January 27, 2016, 03:29:59 PM »
You know, when I first saw your original post last year, I thought to myself it would be a fun "retro desert build." (Standard +3 front a-arms, 1986 color scheme, handlebar mounted headlight, etc.) The rear suspension intrigues me, the desert racer in me wants to ride it to see how it would do! I would love to buy it, just can't swing the cost right now. Unfortunately, I am going to owe the government money this tax season.:frown-new: Hopefully you still have it sitting around in about a month and a half or so....

For Sale - Parts / FW Carbon hood and tank cover

SOLD!!!!!

Selling my FW Carbon flat hood and tank cover. Bought these years ago, they have been mounted and quad has been ridden twice, other then that, they have sat in the garage. Both are in excellent condition. I had the hood on a set of Maier fenders, but I believe it will fit OEM also. Looking to get $130 shipped for the hood, and $120 shipped for the tank cover, or $240 shipped for both. Would prefer Paypal for payment. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Doug

Well, only took 11 months, but it runs, ended up being the CR ignition. Put the OEM ignition back on and fired right up. The batteries in my meter were dead, so couldn't check the ohm readings of the CR ignition, but looks like the stator/flywheel is all one part number anyway, so can't just replace one piece. Not happy, since it is just over $300 for a new stator/flywheel assembly. Really makes me mad that I have less then a dozen rides on that ignition. May just say screw it and keep the OEM ignition, it has only let me down once in the 10 years I have owned it, and that was actually the Ricky Stator stator.

Oh well, took a few pics after I rode it around the block a few times. Hopefully I can get it out in the desert here in the next few weeks.

Body and Controls / Maier dark blue hoods
« on: November 18, 2015, 03:06:33 PM »
Tbone07, I didn't know Jay would make those in different colors. I have the exact hood you linked already for my 250R, if Jay can make it in blue, that may just be the way I go. Didn't really want a carbon hood on a race quad, but guess it is still cheaper then buying 10 hoods from Maier...

Thanks,

Doug

Body and Controls / Maier dark blue hoods

I have been checking ebay for awhile, but haven't seen anything to exciting. Of course, I only check randomly, so I am sure I am missing stuff. Someone did contact me that they have a brand new Maier blue 88/89 style hood with the headlight opening that they could part with, so I will be picking that up. Always wanted to get an 88/89 style hood and do something with an LED light in it. Still wouldn't mind a flat style blue hood, but looks like the Maier order isn't going to happen, have had zero interest so far. Sucks, because I really like the look of that hood. Will just keep looking for something on ebay or forums. This is a project that I won't even need a hood for at least a year, so no hurry.

So I am thinking for my next project, I want to go with a 1986 color scheme, so that means a blue hood. Maier has no blue hoods left, but they will make some if I buy 10 of them, so I am thinking about it. My plan would be to keep 2, then sell the other 8. Would anyone be interested in one of these? It would be the hood below, but I would pick dark blue for the color:

https://www.maier-mfg.com/catalog/trx250r-vented-hood-0

Maier basically said it would be full retail for each one, then I would have them all shipped to me, then I would have to ship them out to whoever wants one. So my guess on a price each would be anywhere from $80 to $100 each depending on shipping. Don't plan on making any money on this, but I don't want to loose my ass either.

Not positive I am going to do this, figured I would check first to see if there is any interest. I may go the easy route and go the red and white scheme, since Maier still makes red hoods, but I think a blue hood, blue seat cover, and white plastics is a hard look to beat!

 Thanks,

Doug

Suspension and Chassis / +4 a arms

Call roll, they will have them or make them. I friend of mine has a set on his narrow laeger, and  I have a set on my walsh.

That is the news I was hoping to hear when I started this thread. Will be calling Roll next week. Actually, may send them an e-mail right now...

Looks like you have Pro-air shocks, how do you like them? Was thinking about going with a set of air shocks for this build also. I have experience with Fox, but I know they will need to be reworked, so I thought about Pro-airs because I am sure they will be right from the start.

Thanks,

Doug

Thanks Skeans1. The widest JD sells is a +3, checked with him about a year ago. Didn't think about six5, figure he does't make anything for a 250R, but I believe he does do custom work, will check with him. Never heard of JDI, will have to look them up. I always though Metaltech and Stellar were more drag/duner parts, but will look into them also.

My plan is to use these on a LSR 250R based, CRF powered desert quad. I want to be about 51" wide, hence the reason for +4's on a stock frame. Since it is a desert quad, I really want a set of Roll Design arms, but I have only seen one set of Roll +4's for a stock frame, and that is the set Burns363R has on his MX 250R. I wonder if Roll could still make +4's, might be worth a call.

Thanks,

Doug
