Lounge / 250r dune trip report

I took some pictures of the light setup. Im glad I didn't sell this bike but it will be a few years before I can ride it normally my back is no good.

That switch crapped out in the rain so I had to direct wire it
There are slots in that angle iron with velcro straps holding it I couldn't find metal clamps in my shop and I didn't have time to get them. Ductape is just a security measure and to let the zip ties grip. I always go three times normal for dune riding.

Battery is a 9ah deep cycle battery purchased from ebay I believe it was under $20. Light bar also purchased from ebay combo spot flood I believe it was $32 and a $7 switch from auto parts store. Made my own battery box and hanger out of 20ga steel. Will take some more pics and post those.

No motor issues that other then the leak bike ran strong made every hill and then some. Again was about neck and neck with a yfz450r piped and tuned in the drag races. Burned about 11 gallons of fuel in about 8.5 hours of run time (on the meter not clock).

The dunes were amazing always a weather risk going early but this time we won. Untouched everywhere no bumps (I got back issues so this was great). Some steep hills on the edges some great treeshots. Overall only rained 15mins out of our trip we had an absolute blast.

So some of you may have noticed I made several posts this last few weeks and I have been concluded my dune trip.

First thing was cooling issue. I decided to try a China radiator before going big with an afco plus my buddies and I agreed it would be a bad idea changing a rad out there. I can honestly say they work! Bike never got over 190 and I was beating the piss out of it going up some big hills. It was actually tough keeping it above 150. This bike has always been over 200 since I built it.

Does anyone know how to get an Esr 9 pipe on a bike with cr500 rear? My pipe leaked and leaked but when I originally mounted it I got it to work with copper but it blew that out after a few hours.

Led light bar with battery and under the seat worked amazing I had the brightest light out there I could do anything and the entire trip charged my little 9ah battery 1 time. We did decent amount of night riding too. I have a cr250 ignition so this was my only option and I'm pleased to say I will run with it forever.

Body and Controls / What Grab Bars Fit TRX250R?

I have a rear bumper that I took off a 400ex yz426 hybrid. The guy that sold me the frame told me it was a 400ex frame modified to fit a 426. I have a walsh frame believe it is 88/89

I did that already sent it to Kevin Herr of Herr jugs racing out in California. He built my old banshee and my rm250 both bikes I'm super happy with so I sent him my 250r. (Plus some builders didn't want to try to fix a hack job jug).

Bike runs awesome now tons more power all issues gone throttle super crisp. iv tested it around my house here haven't got over 180 but my area and the trails here aren't enough to over heat a bike so I never usually know until I get on the sand and by then it's too late and there goes a 5 day trip wasted.

So do I need a radiator maybe I don't know, however having one doesn't hurt and I don't have a money issue so nothing stopping me from buying one.

That is my thought process. Rather waste 400 on a radiator I don't need then have a trip I take once every year go to waste.

actually the guy that built this motor was Pat at that sport shop in Reedsport. Did a terrible job on it, the bike became super fuel efficient was hitting Rev limiters all over the place, over heating issues, and best of all no power my 310 had less power then my 265. I called him like 10 times over a year and he gave me answers like "oh your running cr250 those don't work so good we have best results with stock ignitions"

That's what I did. Runs off a 9amp scooter battery that had a trickle charger plug on it that I can charge when not riding.

Haven't tested how long it works but it should run 3 hrs, which is more then 1 ride for my group.

Edit: I went with a battery because it messes with nothing no reliability issues and in 15 minutes I can go back to having no lights no battery and head off to the race track.

Engine and Bottom End / Afco fittings
« on: April 08, 2016, 11:11:25 PM »
I know I know I posted about buying a CBR radiator but I have been doing some research and it seems like afco is a bit more popular, I was wondering if anyone knows which fittings I will need to run an afco if I decide to go that route? I have to order it online and pick it up on my way to oregon so I cant just take it to an auto parts store I have to have the fittings before hand. I found the link for the rad hoses.

310 procross cylinder with a 4mm crank my radiator has some bent fins iv tried two different stock radiators and on two different motors I'm hovering around 200-220. My 265 stayed below 200 most of the time unless I really made it work hard.
