Carburetor, Intake, and Exhaust / Oil Properties
« on: May 25, 2016, 12:31:07 AM »
I dont mean mixing different oils together, just using different oils mixed at the same ratios seems to darken my plugs more than i like to see, which means harder starting, more smoke' etc.  Thanks for the offer broken1. I can get the amsoil but with 3 two strokes I sometimes find myself without.

Can one assume that all oil will mix equally, meaning if I took four different types of oil and mixed each at say 40:1 that would perform equally with out the need to re-jet for a particular type of oil. I'm an amsoil guy myself but it can be a problem to get it sometimes. I usually keep some Klotz or Super M around but my plugs darken up a tad with those leaving me to believe that I should re-jet with different oils, which I don't want to do. I only use vp110 so that is not part of the equation.

Engine and Bottom End / Rase gas and Temp. control
« on: September 07, 2015, 08:29:49 PM »
Just got back from four days of riding. I used the engine ice, 50/50 race gas mix and went to a colder plug. Bike ran fine with very little over heating but my son likes to plow the side hills and run the hole shots a lot. That is when we noticed the over heating, so essentially slower, lower gear riding. Never did heat up when we were on a longer run. One of my concerns was if the wossner piston and the tighter set-up would be creating more friction, thus more heat. Thanks for all replies - Ron

Let me try to clarify the question a little better without the assumptions of what I have or haven't done  " DOES RACE GAS REDUCE THE OVERALL OPERATING TEMPERATURE OF A CYLINDER ? "  Thanks  Ron

Going to be heading down to Winchester tomorrow. Had my sons 86 out a while back and we were running into some over heating problems. This is a new rebuild. I put a Wossner piston in it which the spec call for a real tight fit -.002". I was running non-ethanol premium. Would running race at 50/50 help with the overheating ? Radiator and Pump checks out fine. Radiator wasn't plugged up or anything else I could find. Just coolant coming out the over flow. Iv'e also switched to Engine Ice. I guess we'll see...thanks

Carburetor, Intake, and Exhaust / Reed Clearance
« on: April 06, 2015, 09:51:17 AM »
Is there any correlation between the distance between the actual reed mounting point and the intake of the cyl. I have to use two spacer plates on a Boyesen Rad valve to get the intake tube to reach the box. I'm using a 38mm PWK. With the two spacer plates which sets the reeds quite a bit further back than stock ( about an inch ). I tried a stock intake boot but I just don't care for the fit on a 38mm. I'm just wondering if I am sacrificing performance with the reeds set like this.  Thanks  Ron

Just went that route with my youngest; started with a 50 - lt80 - lt160 - now trying to get her started on a Blaster. The lt160 was a nice size and if I did it over again I would have went from the 50 to the lt160. It all depends how big your 10 year old is. Mine is 11 but she is just a shade too small for the blaster. ( hand wise-being able to work the clutch and front brake ). I am thinking of picking up a 250ex just for the auto. I am selling the lt160 either way

Engine and Bottom End / Squish
« on: March 23, 2015, 12:13:46 PM »
Just dropped a new Wossner piston in an 86. OEM gaskets for head and cyl. At TDC I'm about 1.5mm below the deck which when combined with the thickness of the head gasket pretty much throws any squish measurement out the window. This is an 86 with piston (67mm) to match. Question would be: 1.) is squish that important for a stock set up. 2.) would splitting the three piece head gasket be of any value. 3.) Any thinner cyl. gaskets available ? I know cutting the deck is the best route to go but I have this motor buttoned up and would rather not tear it down again. Have to have the bike done by april 3 for my sons senior project. If squish is not that critical then I will leave it as is...and thanks for the advice on the air leak, put a little 3 bond on the base gasket and she's air tight - thanks  Ron

Any one use 3 bond on the crankcase gasket, got an ever so slight leak at the gasket. Just buttoning up the rebuild but I have bubbles. Holding at 1/2 lb. loss at 10 min but like I say, when I spray it down I see bubbles. Got it to torqued right

directional fell...one side closes earlier allowing the butt to roll off to the slant. Not much holding wood on a cedar
