Duner / When is next LS/waynoka trip?
« on: September 29, 2015, 07:24:38 AM »
It was a good time and I've never seen so many R's there for a group ride and/or since the early 90's! Lot's of trikes also...

I'm coming to ride and I don't care what it is; 2, 3 or 4 wheels, I don't care. Don't be a hater. Better make sure your stuff is fixed before you start talking to much... You make it sound like I'm bringing a craptor!!!!!

Yeah, I'll be there on a 250, but it's a yz250(with no paddle). It's my woods bike but I'm guessing it's new piston will get broke in at the dunes. R needs some work and cr500 needs finished first.

Lounge / mx boots?

Tech 3's is what I'm using currently. Very affordable with good protection(I've broke both ankles in the past-at separate times tho). Once you get used to mx boots, you'll feel naked without them.

So rolling it out into some grass breaks it in? It's not even dirty!!!!! JK... Looks great, but I couldn't live with all the polished and chromed stuff to keep shiny.

I've heard  that the Cascade is quieter. I forget who all owns one. Pumashine and or some of the Mich guys should know. We don't have to deal with that issue here in Okla.  Pro Circuit makes one also BTW, but I'm pretty sure that the Cascade is sup to be the most quiet one that is spark arrested.

I'll agree with some of that. They  ALL made 3 wheelers at some point in  time, but Honda had the most $$$$ so people went after them. 60 minutes was flawed journalism, but it did the trick. Yes atv's seem easy to ride and it's a shame that most people didn't have the common sense to see that rolling one onto yourself is like a refrigerator landing on  you at 30 or so mph. They had the "common sense" to sue Honda tho(or at least their lawyers did) for their own stupidity. I live in OK, not CA, so our tree huggers are 98% deer hunters that are out hunting LOL. Killing 2 strokes for global warming? Do you really believe that? The amt of emissions from 2 strokes HAS to be a very small percentage of the total emissions. We were the easiest group to pick on. They aren't gonna go after the real culprits which have a lot of $$$$ and lobbyists. I know the facts... I was there too, but I didn't work for Honda. I was in school and then college during those same exact years. You worked for them during their greatest years. That's cool. I used to be brand loyal to Honda. Not anymore tho.

Honda ALWAYS was a 4 stroke company tho. The original Mr. Honda hated 2 strokes. Engineers there developed Honda's 1st 2 strokes on their own time, after hours. They started making them so they would be competitive again.  Anyways enough history...

To the OP, sorry for mucking up YOUR thread. I hope you sell a bunch of hoods and I'd bet that yes Honda's patents did expire. Just like the one they had on how they routed the front brake line on dirtbikes. I have the 1st year YZ250 that has the the Honda style routing. That would be 2005, in case anyone cares :)

You make 10,000 sets and then nobody wants to pay $2000 due to it screwing up how rare NOS OEM plastic is. Plus with people griping abt FB's prices, how many people do you really think wanna drop 2 g's on plastic for a quad that you can buy for that much if you shop around and find a deal? Sure it won't be mint or a laeger, lsr walsh, etc..., but it will be a R. Last R I bought was an 88 with a lot of aftermarket parts on it for $800.

I'm not even gonna start on how Honda abandoned us and 2 strokes. They are a huge worldwide corp and that amount is almost chump change to them. They just started a 6 million Ride Red contingency for racers. That amt is nothing compared to the amount they'll make on bike sales, which really comes down to parts(for them) and service(dealers) to keep all those 4 strokes running/racing, plus they'll make that money back quickly, unlike all the plastics you're dreaming of.

The writing is on the wall: it's time to support those that ARE keeping the R alive.

BTW I'm not trying to be rude, but just pointing out what I know and see. Honda sold a ton of R's, but that was a long long time ago. I'd like to know how many are actually still out there running?????

Engine and Bottom End / CR500 Motor Recommendations
« on: December 06, 2014, 02:53:00 PM »
Most cr500 guys(and others too) have seen that build pic FOR YEARS NOW, but I can't think of anyone that's seen it finished(not to mention run). It's like a unicorn LOL. BTW this guy is an alleged thieving scumbag by ALL the reports I've seen/read on numerous sites. That post above by Tbone, if true(and I'm not saying it's not), shows what a real class act he is.

Engine and Bottom End / Lost builder

I don't see what the problem is, EXCEPT that a 50hp woods friendly OEM 250cc jug pump gas motor isn't possible. I have a 50hp oem jug and it isn't a woods motor. It's a peaky screamer(and was built to be that-no it's not a drag motor btw). Everyone here has no problem sharing info btw.
To get that kind of hp out of a stock jug, EVERYTHING must me matched up to compliment each other and not just a pile of parts thrown together.
The other thing I think you're leaving out of all this is the rider. IDK how well you can ride, but the rider will be one of the most important parts of this machine. A great rider can easily overcome being down a few hp by riding both harder and smarter.
I'm sorry if you didn't like the answers that others have given you, but they are honest answers. Would you rather have a builder lie to you and then be disappointed?

Found some of the pics of me online(was hoping to see some of the full lock sliding sideways turns, but don't see any. Oh well). I'll be back next year as almost always, especially since it'll be the 20th anv. year race. Don't let my race report discourage anyone btw. This race is fun, but I'll pass on supermoto next year to get more track time(was kinda bummed that the supermoto turnout was low this year)! I hope the link works LOL.

BTW I'm not trying to sound b!tchy, but am being honest about how the class I raced happened. I don't just ride quads/trikes, but dirt and street bikes too. I spend a lot of time at Hallet(not just for Goldrush) and I've seen Goldrush done a lot better there in the past. It was packed this year. For those that did stick around, they got to see  the R1 powered utv do some supermoto. That was cool. Your friend on the 450 trike did great and it was fun watching him do some other events, but supermoto kinda sucked this year and the turnout for it showed by the number of racers. If you're gonna put us off and make us wait some, then I think it would be better to let us know beforehand. That is my point. Things not only got changed before the race, but during too.

It's fun(prob the most fun race I've done), but I've seen it done better other years there. I expect things to run over on time(it's always been that way), but this year supermoto was almost a joke on how much they put us off. Fact is the bikes go down regardless. I'm not saying lets make it more dangerous for the bikes, just that racing IS dangerous. All the OTHER events went smoothly and on time from what I saw while there. I've been going there and racing since 1995ish. IDK what the deal was this year on supermoto, but it was bad.  Over 90% of the people were gone by the time we were racing. Many just do their race and leave. I've done it plenty of times and could care less if people watch or not usually. This year tho, I had family waiting to watch. I had fun, but it was frustrating too. Let's put your race off for a few hours and we'll see how you feel. I'll bet you'd feel the same way.

I'll be back next year, but the chances of me racing a quad, ESPECIALLY FOR SUPERMOTO, are slim to none

I got 8th out of 13 in AM  quad supermoto. Was able to get second to the 1st turn and run around in 2nd in my heat(I faded back to 3rd at the end), but the heats were only 4 or 5 quads per heat(the heat before me only had 2 quads in it(WTF?????). Not to bad for a little oem jug that's under 265cc I guess. It was hurry up and wait(for over 2 hours-it seems the bike guys cried about atv's/utv's kicking to much dirt onto the track) to finally get to race, then pretty rushed from the heat to the main. You could tell that some of us older guys weren't to happy abt it(nobody said anything, but you could tell by by both the way I felt and by seeing the looks on some of the other's faces-we were tired and would have liked just a little bit more time). Had abt 30 mins rest between heat and main to rest BTW. Was happy to have finished safely and for my little girl to get to see me race. At 43, I'm not getting any younger so IDK if/when I'll race supermoto again(it felt like we were the bottom of the barrel, 3rd[not even 2nd] class citizens, etc). I see more XC racing prob happening, but most likely on a bike honestly(and STRICTLY for fun). Don't get me wrong tho, it WAS fun.
