I have an 86 frame that is a roller. Ive got the complete a arms, spindles hubs ect 86 style. I just picked up Walsh +2 a arms. I think ive read that the walsh a arms need to use the 88-89 style hubs spindles and what not.. is that true? if so, is it best to invest in a 400ex set up?

If they are designed for R spindles 86 will work fine. 88-89 are a little nicer though.

You may want to confirm that they are for R spindles. 10 years ago a lot of a arm makers favored ex spindles.

I think the only difference is the spindles 89 are tapered and I think 86-88 are not tapered

Measure the stock arms and find the difference between upper and lower. Then do the same with your Walsh's. Ex style arms have a relatively shorter upper.

Spirit aces is correct.  400ex hubs will fit on a 1989 spindle in stock form.  If you remove the tapered collar from them, supposedly they will fit an 88 spindle.
