Questions for North Carolina guys
« on: April 15, 2014, 09:47:50 AM »
Hey guys, So the wife and I have been pondering a move to the Raleigh NC area, it wouldnt be for about a yr or so, but its a possiblity none the less. We have a few quesitons about the area, that hopefully some locals can answer.

1) Hows the Church scene? Google tells me theres a ton to choose from, and as youth leaders currently, thats probably our biggest focus.

2) How are the schools in the area? Looks like the Christian schools really have a lot to offer, are the public schools nice?

3) Are there any areas you do not recommend living? We will probably do the suburb thing until we make some good friends, then move out to a 20 acre space. So any city areas that we should stay away from?

4) What kind of riding is it there? Mostly trail stuff? Mountains? I dune, and i havent had any luck finding dunes there haha.

5) General concensus on the area, love it? hate it, etc. Good attractions, any plus or minus to the area. Fresh water lakes anywhere?

Thanks guys, i appreciate it alot. And to my local guys who are reading this thinking "wtf" its an idea, not set in stone yet. haha. And we will make 1 good dune trip each year!

Colin

wish i could help more but im from other end of state but there are plenty of churches of all denominations too choose from i cant say that the nc school system is great my wife works in the school system and we just recently pulled our 14 year old out and enrolled him in a local christian school. as far as riding goes the options arent bad theres busco beach in goldboro which isnt to far from raleigh has lots of mud, sand and wooded trails been a few years since ive been that way. then theres carolina adventure world a few hours south/west below charlotte with a good selection of trails. and brushy mtn motorsports park a few hours west near statesville with lots of trails + there are a few motocross tracks around raleigh (or there used to be at least) that are usuallly open on the weekends. that about all i got.  neil (C-leigh racing) will no more about that end of the state.

I'll just fill in between the questions with my replys.
Most of North Carolina, some of Virgina & parts of South Carolina, are known as the Bible belt of the USA. You'll find a good host of Churches to fill your Christian needs. I'm an old Holiness raised person, grandfather was a preacher most of his life up until he passed to be with the Lord.
Youth leaders, you'll both will fit in just fine, because we need some good strong Christian leaders for the kids, ones with a mind set to lead them with what way the Bible says for us to go.

2) How are the schools in the area? Looks like the Christian schools really have a lot to offer, are the public schools nice?

>>
Public Schools, My wife is also a State school worker & looking back in my years past raising out three kids, if I could change the past, my kids would have been in a private Christian school. You'll probably see, the same thing where ever you go when it comes to the state ran school systems, like I mean how can it be any other way when we have a government that will let one woman work a way to take God out of the schools, they are just doomed from that point. Anything in life, if Gods not got a part in it, it will not survive & you can take that to the bank.

3) Are there any areas you do not recommend living? We will probably do the suburb thing until we make some good friends, then move out to a 20 acre space. So any city areas that we should stay away from?

>>
Raleigh NC would be a good area to live. It is a city growing, not to big to be impersonal & not to small that it cant fill most everyones needs. There are larger citys in NC, but just from my thoughts, I wouldnt want to live in or to close to them, but I'm an old country fied person & like that free country fresh air & dont have to worrie about somebody looking over my shoulder every time I move.
I'm an old hillbilly, born up around Hickory NC & had something to do with racing since I was 8 years old. Old dirt track cars & red clay is in my blood & will be until I go to be with the Lord.

4) What kind of riding is it there? Mostly trail stuff? Mountains? I dune, and i havent had any luck finding dunes there haha.

>>
Riding, Racing, I live in Nashville NC & can leave my house & go in any direction, any road & be at some type of race track or riding area in less than 50 miles. When you live in North Carolina, you live in the hub of racing, where Nascar was born, the old country dirt race tracks that type of racing came from, so its only natural you could & can find any type of racing your looking for & enjoy.
I will have to say though, you'll not find any dune type riding in NC, maybe some sandy type land to ride or race on, but no dune sand like out west. We do have the Outer Banks that people go to, open beach type riding, but no areas other than that on the coast for atvs to ride.

5) General concensus on the area, love it? hate it, etc. Good attractions, any plus or minus to the area. Fresh water lakes anywhere?

>>
Several lakes you can go to & enjoy close to Raleigh, just pick up a NC road map & you can see the lakes spread out across NC.
Attraction, State fair grounds right there in Raleigh & theres something going on there just about every weekend. We have Carowinds Amusment Park in Charlotte NC & then theres many attractions up in the mountians. Lot of people from NC will opt to go to Pigeon Forge Tenn. That place is unbelievable, with miles & miles of something to do on both side of the 4 lane road going through it. One thing it is most noted for, Dollywood Amusment Park as it is named now. It was Silver Dollar City years ago till Dolly bought it out. Its all still good though & even better knowing Dolly owns it.

Thanks guys, i appreciate it alot. And to my local guys who are reading this thinking "wtf" its an idea, not set in stone yet. haha. And we will make 1 good dune trip each year!

Well Colin, thats my spill on NC. Theres more I could add, I could sit here all day & type in the many good reasons to live in NC, but I'll just leave most so you can move in & get to live the good life in the state of North Carolina.

Well, I tell you, we have a lot of folks from other states move to NC, whole bunch of good reason to do so.
Tell you something else, you go up in them NC mountains, high up in the sky & you can just feel your closer to God, thats how them ol hills do me anyways.
I had an uncle preached a church up at Burnsville NC, where jfwyatt1 lives. Could stand on his front porch & see the snow cap on Mount Mitchell in the fall.

I would be willing to say, you come stay for a week or two around here & I bet you'll be going back home & loading a moving truck up with your stuff.

Hey, about that living out loud.
We lost our oldest daughter back in 1992, crossing the road walking the church one Sunday evening & you can rest assured I got a good whooping from the Lord that day, so only way I can see her again, is live my life like the Bible say to do cause I want to walk with God just like she is.

Yeah this winer was brutal, 146" here in ludington this year...you dont realize what 40 days with no sun does to your mood until it happens. Not to mention its only light outside from 830am to 5pm during the cold.

What is the daylight like down there? Ever get as bad as here?

In the spring & summer, it will start to get dark around 8: 8:30ish with the daylight savings time.
You'll have a bunch of months to do things, cause we maybe get snow 3~4 times during the cold season but it dont amount to much. We'll get hit with ice though several times. You'll have a good time watching in the winter, some of these idiots down here trying to drive & aint got a clue what they are doing.
A body shop business, would be a good idea around here, cause some people here are stupider than a wet stick. I wonder how they got their drivers license they are so dumb.
