Alky Setup help
« on: December 17, 2014, 12:43:16 PM »
Hey guys. I'd like to put my 370 on alky for next season but not really sure on a few things, like where to drill and tap for the pump and how to mount the pump.  Not really sure what size carb would be ideal. I have a 45 lectron setup on alky now that i could use possibly. any input is appreciated. thanks!

Slap the 45 on it and go!  Some go in the reed cage area for the vac line but most go down into one of the transfers. Mounting it don't bolt it to anything you will break the ears off from the vib. On my puma I have it suspended with the fuel lines and vac line.  I'll see if I can dig up a pic

cool thanks for the reply. i know my saber has it under the reed cage area.  this may be a dumb question but when you say down into the transfers, where exactly is that? which area is preferred or is there really no difference?

My pro x was right about that middle bolt on the stator cover and the tap was at the  bottom of the cyl

It's easier on the side the. The reed cage I think. Depends how handy you are if you do go on the side I suggest a 90 degree fitting to make your vac hose easier to hook up

Ok cool. Do you happen to know what size to drill it or what size fitting to use?

this is what i ended up doing. 45* then a nipple screwed into that. pic doesnt show it but i used thread tape to seal the threads also.  if you go in the side of the intake area i would suggest going in front or above the side of the reed cage. some cages are pretty tight against the intake wall and if its blocking your vacuum hole them ill bet the signal will be very weak. even if theres 1mm or so of space between the cage and intake wall i would still try to locate the vacuum hole above or in front of the cage in a more open area but thats just my opinion. going in the side at the transfer aint a bad spot either. really just a preference thing

Run the Lectron as stated. i think it is the 2-XL needle in mine. Suspend it under the tank area with zip ties especially since you ride at Pismo as well. My Sphinx was tapped under the intake and the side, I ran the pulse line off the side. Remember you will need to purge after each trip/day. I like to do it before the pump to clean it out as well. Also run Tygon fuel lines. The regular stuff will not hold up.

udontknowme where did you get that fitting and what size is it? cool thanks Rupp250 I have an alky needle in there now but i would have to check the size. Im guessing packard could probably give me a good starting point on settings for the carb huh?
