I ran across this video on you tube of Loretta's Mx in 1995. This was my first atv race ever and when I left I said I have got to get one of those. The first few mins of the video is pretty crappy but it gets a little better. I can remember standing just feet away from Farr and Byrd at the finish line but didn't make it in the shot.       https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lek_jVJ9Zbs    I guess this is what got me into 250R's. How did everyone else get into R's

My dad worked with a guy that was into quads & trikes & went to the dunes all the time. They had a nice 85 350x & my dad bought it from them in 87. When they sold us the X they got a brand new 88 250R & we started going to the dunes with them on a regular basis. By the end of 1988 I told my dad I needed to get an R so I could keep up with my friend:smile-new:. We looked at 5 different bikes (86-87 models) & surprisingly for only being two years old most of them were trashed. We ended up getting an 86 that was the best of the worst. That same bike is sitting in my garage to this day & I'll never sell it. EVER!

Cool video.  Nothing but 2 strokes.  I don't have any good stories about how I got into 250r's.  Before craigslist and forums, I had never seen one for sale.  They were like a mythical creature that I knew I would like but didn't think I could have.  Finally got an 86 a couple hours from home some time in the mid 2000s.  I don't plan on being without one anytime soon.

I am feelings soooo old right now and I'm only 36. I got my first 250 at age 8. It was an 84 three wheeler. Then at 10 I got my first "water pumper"... all be it in pieces. 85 three wheeler. I bought the roller from a friend who raced micro sprints. Then bought a brand new take out engine that I actually still own. In 91 at 13 I bought my first 250r quad. Before the r's I had a 200x that we used to haul inside the motor home (through the side door). My first trip to Pismo was in 1981 and I still have the scar as proof. Back then doubles weren't illegal and everyone wore open faced helmets. A family friend gave me a ride on his brand spankin new 81 250r three wheeler and we hit a wash out. I was sitting in front of him on the tank and went face first into the triple clamp ripping open about an inch of my face next to my right eye.

I am lucky enough to have tons and tons of great story's from the "glory days"

The one thing I keep thinking now that I have an 8 year old boy is "WHAT THE F@$K" were my parents thinking !!! I can't figure out how it is that I never got seriously hurt when I was little (other than my scar). When I was 30 I crushed two disks but prior to that I crashed at least 200 times. I still have a hard time not feeling like Super Man when I'm on my bike. Wide F'n Open or not at all !!!!
