mechanical seal
« on: March 02, 2020, 09:52:10 PM »
this is probably a stupid question but i had to take out the rubber/spring part of the mechanical seal to powder coat and i didnt take out the inner metal piece. and when i took out the rubber piece i accidentally broke it but i have a few other rubber and spring pieces from my past clutch cover and other mechanical seal. can i just put one of those in because the spring kind of locks in place and i dont really know how the mechanical seal works so this is most likely a stupid question. i can upload picture later

I would think the rust stain would answer all your questions---------------replace it, they are not expensive.

Just replace it. It's a cheap part and it's better to be safe than sorry.

I agree! It sucks to put everything together and then fire it up only to find out that you have a bad water pump seal.
