Is there anyway to tell the difference between an 88 and 89 frame? Is there something in the vin number that will tell what year it is?

Ok thanks. I didn't know about heel guard mounts. I'll check that out tonight. Just picked this up and gonna slowly fix it up.

on the lower subframe support about 6" up from the footpeg will be a bolt hole where the heel gaurds mounted.  That bolt hole is how you can tell

. This is sub frame and i'm not seeing any extra holes that my 86 frame doesn't have. So i'm assuming its an 88?
